we have had a lot of shower and thundershower activity across the midwest. igan right now. take a look at these pictures that we have from you that were from chicago earlier this morning from the same storm system. the air and water show has been going on. it started at 10:00 but they had to stop it at 10:30. but the police did step in and helped guide the crowd to safe places. there were an estimated 2.2 million people. the show did resume after the storms passed and nobody was injured and chicago, you're looking a lot better right now. in wisconsin, one person was killed, this was yesterday due to what's been confirmed now as a tornado, an ef-1 flattened a mobile home, hundreds of trees have been snapped off and caused damage in northern wisconsin. let's talk about where the storm system is moving right now and we're real concerned about what's going on in detroit. a severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for you and it's really in particular the northern half here, up into the suburbs, damaging winds in excess of 60-mile-per-hour can be expected so stay

let's talk about the president's bus trip and the tour across the midwest. he's been getting some push back from his own base supporters and as we saw earlier the congressional black caucus has been in detroit as part of their jobs tour getting an angry reaction about what they see as the president focussing on one portion of middle america and not on their needs? >> i think it's an incredible contrast between a president who's out there talking about bringing this together to address our challenges and governor perry elected as governor by talking about succession from the union and now using the term treason about an important federal economic official. rick perry will do anything, say anything to get elected president. but i think this time he's put his boot in his mouth. i do want to see president obama focussing more on jobs. if what he just outlined the one that i think is most important is doing work that needs to be done to deal with our infrastructure here in san antonio, austin, across central texas and across america there are jobs out there. there

this is the first state in his three-state trip across the midwest. joining me from cannon falls msnbc's chuck today. chuck, thanks so much for joining us. this is the first day the kick off it had all the earmarks of a political campaign rally. the fact is this bus tour comes on the heels of what the republicans have been doing the past couple of days in iowa and across the midwest. let's talk about that in that context. the poll numbers down in the gallup to 39%. how much of this is driving the president's game plan? >> reporter: well, a lot of it is, not this poll specifically, but the fact of the matter is when you hit 39, when you hit the low 40s, anything below what, that means you're losing normal supporters. those folks who are disapproving. i found them here. we were talking to a whole bunch of folks here before this started. we could hear the support for the president but hesitantsy about certain things. for some it was he compromises too much. for others it's i'm just tired of this washington fighting. i wish he could just unit them and brin
