so the moon is very close to earth at the very moment of totality. you do get away with seeing moon rise tonight, you'll see it's already in partial eclipse. the moon will look like as the bite taken out of it. then totality happens from 7:11 p.m. until 8:23 p.m. tonight. there are high clouds especially in the south and east bay. north bay is better. the central bay is improving so good luck. i hope you get a good view. it's the supermoon eclipse, as we just mentioned. it appears 13% larger, the moon does, then last april's total eclipse of the moorngs and it's the last total eclipse of the moon until 2018, and the last supermoon total eclipse for decades. but here is where the high clouds are coming from. you can see this low pressure trough that's over northern california but rapidly moving to the south so we just might squeak in this one. hope we do anyway. future cast shows by 7:00 tonight most of the high clouds will be on the south bay where it can really ruane the total eclipse, but north central parts of the east bay look pretty good. high cl

the moon passing through the earth's shadow will create that reddish tint to the moon. fact, here's a closer look at that. 14% larger, over 30% brighter. as far as the time line, begins totality, total lunar eclipse at 7:00, 7:11 to 8:23 this evening. the closest.to the earth when you're looking to the moon, over 221,000 miles away. the biggest challenge for us, the cloud cover. here's a look at the satellite. earlier today we had lots of clouds over a good portion of the bay area. this is a satellite loop. notice this, the main cloud band, in fact, drifting to the south, basically drifting this direction. that is excellent news for us. here's a closer look at some of the overcast conditions right now, focused in the southern third of the bay area, closer to the south bay. then up in the north bay, we have clearing skies up toward santa rosa, napa, even parts of san francisco we do have partly cloudy skies. a few cameras are lined up to show you. here is our san rafael camera with a few high clouds way up in the topper top portion of the screen there. we do have fair sk
