unmanned mission that's paving the way for astronauts to someday return to the moon. the dawn of a new era as the world looks forward to a new year. >> this fall, hurricane ian pummeled southwest florida, devastating communities along the coast. >> climate experts are warning these catastrophic storms are becoming the norm, as warming temperatures force more extreme and disruptive weather events. here's nbc news meteorologist, dylan drier. >> 2022, a violent year of weather extremes. from heat waves and drought, to catastrophic flooding and hurricanes. the impact reverberating around the globe. so far this year, 15 billion dollar weather disasters hit the u.s., according to noaa, the national oceanic and atmospheric administration. the final count yet to be tallied. the first billion dollar disaster came in the spring, when warmer temperatures fueled three deadly tornado outbreaks in as many weeks. spotting more than 200 reported tornadoes across more than a dozen states. >> it's very devastating, like it's all your hard work is just gone up in the air. >> in the west,

many of us are familiar with the half moon bay area. the first location -- actually both locations are about three miles from each other. the farms are two separate entities with different owners. the first shooting happened at a farm right off highway 92. police found five people shot there, four of them dead. that farm operates under the business of name of california terra garden. a company spokesperson says 35 people work there, and that as of yesterday, the suspect, chunli zhao, worked there full-time. the location of the second shooting was concord farms off of highway 1. that's down near the ritz-carlton hotel. this is where three more people were killed. the suspect also worked at that spot years ago. the two companies don't technically share workers, but some workers may be employed at both farms. >>> when we come back, we're going to take a break from our coverage in half moon bay. we'll also check in with our weather forecast. jeff ranieri will join us, and we'll check in >>> welcome back. it does get better for our communitie

locations in half >> in the past 15 minutes, our chopper otd half moon bay sheriff's substation. a law enforcement source tells us the suspect drove himself there and deputies found him in the parking lot. >>> a look from our camera on the ground right now. this is a different view of the suspect being taken colored hat. obviously in cuffs right now. he was taken through the gates and inside the substation. >> again, we are looking at two different shooting scenes here. unclear if they are related yet. that is information we are working on. one is at a trucking supply company along highway 1. the other is at the mountain mushroom farm along highway 92. in the spanish town area. len ramirez arrived on scene there. in the last 30 minutes, like the last half hour we have witnessed. you saw firsthand. what can you tell us is happening there now? >> right now, there are still dozens of law enforcement officials. in mateo county sheriff's units and investigators. more are arriving all the time, as well as traffic on highway 92. it's quite a scene here with a lot of commotion and a lot o
