our next guest terrifically had to go to the morgue to identify her son matthew is one of the victimsin his mother cathy tenedorio and his cousin amber knight. thank you. we cannot convey how heartsick we are for you and your family. can you tell us how you found out about your son and are you getting the information that you need from authorities? >> well i found out the roundabout way that a parent would go through when their son did not come home. calling, texting, no answers, finally getting in touch with the friends, finding out something terrible happened. then, you know, we did not know if he was alive, they did not know if he was alive, his two friends that were with him. they got separated in all of the chaos and so we called all of the hospitals and he wasn't listed as a patient, so then we found out finally around 11:00 in the morning new year's day that university medical center had set up, you know, an area for families to come and see if their loved ones were there at the morgue and that's what we wound up doing and we were told your son is here, it is him. we did not ac

their their numbers from the dc medical examiner, who we know in the hours after this incident happened, set up effectively a temporary morgue on the banks of the potomac river here. that's according to our local station here, wrc. and so that they could quickly receive those remains that were being brought to shore by boat, transferred to ambulances, and then taken to this facility with the dc medical examiner in order for them to do their work to identify these remains. we understand that families are being notified. we know the one military service member who's been recovered at this point. his family was in the process of being notified as well. the department of defense has a standing protocol for when it releases information about service members who have been killed. and so there will be some time before we learn that information. at the same time, as i said, the recovery effort is ongoing here. jose, the there were divers from the dc, ems and dc fire and ems, dc police as well as some of the state agencies around this area. they all work together. there were divers in the water late last night, all night long, and as

the scene. there are red tents that are set up kind of a temporary morgue. both the medical examiners from the state of virginia, as well as the army medical examiners, are on scene, but no full manifest has been released yet with all the names of the people who have died. but you mentioned this at the top, anna, that among those who were on board were members of the figure skating usa figure skating. there had been the national championships in wichita, followed by a training program. it's a very prestigious thing for a young skater to be involved as a young person in this training program. they were there, many with their parents, some with their coaches. the tragedy compounding tragedy. i can tell you, while there is mourning for all 67 of the people on board, the skating community is very close. one, they lead lives that are unique. going to the skating rink with mom or dad at 5:00 in the morning, traveling the world sometimes for competitions, yes, competitors, but also friends because they're in a situation that very few people their age can know. and i

the d.c. medical examiner, who our local station here in washington, wrc, has reported, set up a sort of a makeshift morgue on the banks of the potomac river over the over the overnight hours as the d.c. fire and ems teams, along with teams from around the region, have been in the water, with divers trying to recover. they wanted to recover survivors, obviously, but in this case they've been able to recover 28 bodies. we expect that number obviously would continue to grow as the daylight is now on the side of the divers here, and they're able to sort of go through that water with, with the light of day, as opposed to just using the helicopter lights that they had to use all night long. and there were teams in the water all night long searching as we understand it. it was again a little before six. with 60 passengers on board, four crew members before that helicopter collided with the jetliner, with the three soldiers that were on board that aircraft. there's still obviously a lot of questions as to why this accident happened. that is going to be the main thrust of the ntsb investigation. now, that entity i
