the opportunities for the cycling and the stockton and the broad way tunnels and i am working with the mta to coordinate some of these project and cycling comes up as we consider all of these and we are discussing the lack of continuity across these many different platforms and so the opportunity incorporate the cycling into the potential side walk widening and the commercial corridor studies and would i like to invite more attention to that coordination, and the other thing that i hope that we keep working on, is the more effect integration of the cycling into the commercial core doors and the polk street project has been an interesting opportunity to look at that a little more closely, but you know, i know that stockton street, and from china town to north beach ask we are trying to look at columus avenue and hopefully, and i am sure that the need exists all over the city but in our condensed district it is acute and i hope that we can look at this with a collective eye. and figure it out. >> any other comments or questions from the committee members? >> seeing none. >> maybe to the next

so if he can get the slides back up i think he did a great job of explaining what the mta was to take the vision as articulated by ben and walk it through a planning process to see what transportation exist and how to move forward the report itself includes those main sections i encourage you to take a read as you're able to you can't cover it all 15 recommendations and 5 proposed next steps we want to continue collaborating on we're in a scoping period to define the budget for the next steps we expect them to happen so i thought i'd start with the interesting finding with the late night travel we were able to learn through some analysis of do not the first slide is our attempt at quantifying how many people are traveling duran during the late night hours 2 hundred and 50 people on a late night less than on a weekend bus that's a lot of trips 7 percent of total daily trips equivalent to trips by the giants games of the trips more happen during the 9 to midnight than the midnight to a.m. hours it is interesting with the midnight to 5:00 a.m. prominently regional about 2/3rd's of them w

the city? again, seven departments, mta, department of public health, police department, unified school district, district attorney's office, department of the environment and the ta, meet regularly, typically once a month, to discuss what it is that we want to be doing? we're currently writing an active transportation program grant in support of our educational efforts. it's money that we won't see until 2017, if we are successful, but it's one of the things that we discussed as a committee. this committee has not only already developed a strategy, and working to approach campaign concepts, but is and will continue to provide feedback on safety campaigns. while we've spent the last year strengthening our partnerships we are committed to doing more in the future. >> so when it comes to the educational campaigns, what we are really trying to achieve is a culture shift in san francisco. and that is -- that is not just dependent on teaching people individual skills. we have adopted the spectrum of prevention as our working framework in our theory and how we are going to move forward an educational

based on the preliminary research we gathered, working with mta to draft a legislative proposal. included in that proposal would be both fixed and mobile cameras. the enforcement area would be within a quarter of a mile of a school or senior center. again, really targeting those vulnerable populations, and public announcements, 30 days in advance of when speed cameras would go into effect. most jurisdictions give anywhere from two week to two months and so this proposal included 30 days, where instead of a ticket or citation that they would receive a notice that lets them know you were speeding and you were speeding at this location. and this is the photo from that camera. and two photos of the vehicle license plate. there would not be a photo of the driver. and so a violation would then be sent to the registered owner of that vehicle. so coordination would be needed with the dmv to get names and addresses of those who were in violation and citations would be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle. revenue use would be treated like a parking ticket, rather than a moving viola

after any public input -- and the reasons for that change are unclear i would like to request that the mta reveal the reasoning, the particular change backpedals from safety on one block, where the pedestrian and cyclist crashes would point to the fact that, in fact, that amenity, meaning that way cycle way should be in place and further, it's a section of the road wide enough to accommodate it. which is why the team had originally planned to put it there. having said that i would like to have it treated as not just for one block on one street in our city. but again, as emblematic of the process. we care very much about transparency, logic and data driving the process. having said that, too, if it is an agenda item, and i would prepare more material, i will not be here for the next meeting. so the deadline then for the bids for the street must be complete by the end of october. so i think steve or some other person can tell me the best way to proceed with that? again, i take very seriously having been in the trenches of the work on this, and the public outreach, and the people who have opp

been raised by itself taxicab drivers over the past meeting a number of fishes attacks on drivers the mta takes this seriously and has taken steps we're going looking to improve the on board security cameras that requires the security cameras and signage in the taxis the transportation unit out at the airport to up to date their cameras to make sure their functions and the vehicle has the proper signage when a customer sees their report and on board cameras are- it is a felon to attack a taxi driver this was was, in fact in place it is a felon and we're work on developing appropriate signage to be posted in taxis similar to taxi vehicles i have - i have a sample again will be similar to the muni vehicles thank you we're working to improve communications with sfpd they've been notified to participate in the new driver classes and meeting later in the month to work out the details we've reviewed the taxi panic bottom concept that's been mentioned based on our research and experiences we glean from other jurisdictions including toronto and new york and san diego city council and seattle we'r

to see more of a kind of coordinated somebody's report looking at -- and i mean multiagency with the mta and the municipal railway and us everybody looking at all the things we do to try to ensure pedestrian traffic and by the way, also safe routes to the school was mentioned and we'd like to get more kids to bike to school, so the need for paying attention to or investing in human resources and other resource tos address safety around our schools becomes much more important than it used to be and in fact i'll just end by saying again, i'm certainly aware that in part this problem is a bigger problem because we're not sending kids on yellow buses so much anymore. i would like to -- somebody the staff or others to come back to us with some idea about how we can have a coordinated look at all the thing that is are going on around safety around schools and around the street safety, pedestrian and egress and access to those places because it's a big issue and i appreciate that we're doing these things about it but i know there's a lot more we can do. thank you. >> supervisor kim? >> i realiz
