the navy does not know what the l.c.s. sea frames will be capable of doing once all of them are purchased in 2019, and it does not know what role they will play even if development miraculously goes according to plan. against that backdrop, the need to slow this procurement is clear. recently we learned recently that at secretary hagel's direction, the navy has established a task force to determine how l.c.s. can best serve the fleet going forward. the navy should, above all else, not repeat the mistakes of the past. congress must hold the navy to account at each step in the process. this means establishing requirements and sticking to them, setting a stable design and holding to it and zealously guarding against further cost growth. i support secretary hagel's decision to limit l.c.s. procurement to 32 ships. i have recommended further reducing the l.c.s. procurement to 24 ships. more important than the raw number of ships, however, is the manner in which the procurement goes forward. as congress considers the president's

found my way back in about myself to school and joined the navy. at the time it was an anti-submarine warfare operating i did a couple of years as a sonar operator. i joined to be a seal which is all the store. most of it is in my look. so i think to answer your question, it's dealing with learning how to deal with the diversity and understanding about parents let me play sports with a tommy that and live not everyone gets to be on the podium or get a trophy. it is important if you do get knocked down and live and you get back up and learn from those experiences and keep driving on. that's what i think really prepared myself for seal training and what i think prepares of errors. >> one of the things in your books of that you were in the middle of the basic under water demolition and seal turning. he said that there is a point or one of our long runs out where to training the ran behind a truck while music played. i visualized myself were in the sealed trident. thus when i decided i'm and a going home in a coffin or going home wearing a trident. >> t

joining us is commander william marks with the u.s. navy's seventh fleet. good to have you on commander, saturday's search was the smallest, most refined one we found. do you know what this is based on, how they're narrowing it down? >> well, yeah, if you look at the four different detection areas they are really only between four and ten kilometers apart. so it is not that bad of an area, you know, certainly considering where we started from. but the critical point is, every even -- you know, couple feet that we can shrink this down is very critical for the bluefin-21 sonar. as slow as the tpl goes, for the tpl, we have to tow it behind us about at the pace a person walks. well, the bluefin is much slower than even that. so imagine you're walking down the sidewalk and instead of just continuously walking, you have to walk and take a picture. and you do that every so often. so even if you cover a couple of square miles it might take a day or two with the bluefin. so that is why we have to stick with the tpl for just a little while longer to make sure we have

once i graduated from high school, i joined the navy and a 17 right out of high school as soon as i graduate i went to boot camp. six months after boot camp after my initial training i went in to the basic underwater demolition training. i completed that and after that i worked through more specialized training until you get to an actual seal team, and i was there for a number of years. while i was there and prior to that i got involved in hunting dogs etc. which i talk about in the book of hope, and again i found myself marveling at the physical characteristics that they possess but now there was an added element in that there was a natural attrition that they possess towards other animals and i found myself impressed by their tenacity and will to succeed and to win and take down animals two or three or four times their size. it was at that point that i got into the animal husbandry aspect of the dogs where i paid really close to nutrition and conditioning from a veterinary aspect i learned a lot after they would get injured etc. and i just learned just about every aspect of raising dogs fr
