'cause it was not in the press. we read about the whistle blower and the two that are going to jail, so that is the public narrative. can you explain what the navy did when they detected the discrepancy first. >> right. so in 2012, when we detected that irregularity, we worked -- >> supervisor kim: in 2012? >> yes, in 2012. >> supervisor kim: six years ago? >> yes. >> supervisor kim: why is it i only found out about the discrepancy in 2018? >> yes. in 2012, we detected the irregularity. we worked with tetratech to say we need to understand what this irregularity is. they did an investigation, an evaluation. they issued a report. i think that report has been heavily covered in the media, and there was -- there was thought to be really limited issue there, and corrective actions were taken and rework was done. so in 2014, it was thought that that had been completely addressed. however, subsequently, we found additional issues. >> supervisor kim: when was that? >> we found them throughout 2013, 2014, and we continued t

again, as the navy and the e.p.a. reported, there was detail process, they kept the regulatory agencies and myself informed, just as they have done for the entire time that i'm working on it and keep reports and information, and they -- as they stated, they thought that they were able to fix all the problems and the err errors, and they issued a report which was reviewed by all the regulatory agencies, and we were given assurances that the problems had been resolved and the falsification had been resolved. >> supervisor cohen: ? 2012, did this matter go before the health commission? >> during -- during my time, there's been technical issues that have been discussed between the navy and the regulatory agencies and the health department has been informed. it's never risen to the level that we need to bring it to the health commission and board of supervisors. health commission and board of supervisors have occasionally voluntarily called for hearings. there was a hearing on the parcel e-2 landfill proposals for how that

once the u.s. navy squadron arrived, they had boxing tournaments, a football .ournament in the fall of 1918 they played a considerable amount of baseball. there was a lot of the inner fleet, u.s. versus u.k. boxing matches. flow, not really great in terms of liberty call. when the ships would go into the navy yards for repairs, you had a little bit of the traditional nightlife. let me turn to the mediterranean. i want to concentrate on the gallipoli campaign. empire, is stan ball and we are going to focus on this area right here. this was an's -- winston churchill's baby. this was to break the stalemate , open thetern front and into the dardanelles and into the mediterranean. to open up that waterway to asow the black sea fleet well as foodstuffs coming out of this a very robust agricultural area. this would allow them to come out into the ocean. italy designed to prod into joining the war. church l and the admiralty --posed -- church hill churchill and the admiralty advised for an act on julie pooley -
