the book received? >> it was reviewed very widely in places like the new york times and tribune. a lot of viewers understand [indiscernible] there was nothing outright that is out there and it stayed an important niche. there were a few not so positive reviews, particularly a couple of lincoln people who didn't think it said enough. but, yeah, it was covered in the black press. he got a medal of honor from the haitian government, so the haitian government really liked that and gave him a certificate of honor. and it sold out quickly. and then was never reprinted. and so -- >> why was it never reprinted? >> well, i don't know. a lot of different factors that could have gone into it. one is washington's literary agent died right before the book came out. and he -- so he didn't feel -- he felt -- he didn't feel like he had an agent or somebody who could mediate or go back to the new york publisher and say hey, help this guy get another book out. he later said in one letter that ep dutton, the publisher was having financial problems. somebody pointed out to me, i had taken on that thi

reviewers have called the book incredible and definitive. they have noticed 500 d interviews being conducted. they praise his literary prowess but the story he tells is a discerning one.
