and at the port of oakland, a big sideshow. of police cars rushing to the scene. >> and kpix 5's anne makovec joins us now from the newsroom with he details on this story. >> reporter: these sideshows are very risky not only could there be car accidents, spectators are often hit and last night shots were fired. we caught a lot of the action from chopper 5 a car doing donuts in the street at 7th and maritime near the port of oakland. sideshows are illegal but have been going on in oakland for years, sometimes several cars are going at one time. there were hundreds of people watching at any given point taking their chances really by doing so. we have seen these cars veer out of control into the crowd on several occasions. so where were the police during all of this? first, we saw several patrol cars just standing by for some time blocked and then they grew in numbers blocking in everybody at the scene and then spectators some of the people also performing in the show they tried to use that red van to crash through a cyclone fence

oakland. hundreds of people gathered at the port of oakland for a wild sideshow. police finally swarmed the scene. kpix 5's anne makovec joins us from the newsroom now with a story and some pretty incredible video too, ann. >> officers have arrested several people and they are reviewing social media and other video sources to find more evidence in this case. the pictures do not lie. we caught a lot of the action from chopper 5. you can see there are cars doing donuts in the middle of the street. this is at 7th and maritime near the port of oakland. sideshows are of course illegal but they have been very popular in oakland for several years now. sometimes it's one car performing as you can see there. sometimes two or three. and there was a crowd of about one to two hundred people watching. it's dangerous. those cars can easily veer out of control into the crowd. where were the police? first we saw a few patrol cars standing by. then more cars arrived blocking in everybody at the scene both spectators and those doing the sideshow and then some people tried to flee. i

outside right now, a crowd of about 200 people on the move in oakland. the demonstrators have been at it since 7:30 tonight. news chopper 2 is at it with these pictures. some in the crowd started breaking store windows, and spray painting graffiti. we get this developing news from ktvu's amber lee. she has been with the demonstrators for much of the night, but stopped for a moment to bring us this live report. >> reporter: julie, we're at 14th and clay right by city hall. this was the starting point for tonight's march. just a few minutes ago, some of the protesters marched through here again. this demonstration has largely been peaceful, until about an hour ago. we saw some protesters vandalize a neighborhood market and other businesses, and some spray painted a building. it appears police arrested a man for that incident. this is the repeat of some of what happened. the two previous nights of protest. the demonstrators have been on the move since shortly before 7:30. the marchers are a diverse group. one 20-year-old says he's been stopped and roughed up

the oakland tribune building also vandalized. as protesters smashed windows as they passed by the tribune. dozens of cars are blocking a street near the port of oakland. several cars are doing stunt sideshows in the middle of the road. this is on 7-th and maritime. police arrived to the street.but right now it appears they are unable to get through. tonight there was a larger, more visible police presence on the streets. to try and keep crowds under control. oakland police again called in additional help from other law enforcement agencies including c-h-p. there were still about 200 to 300 people on the streets tonight tonight. one of their main focuses of law enforcement. is trying to keep protesters off the freeways. this is video from last night. you may remember what happened at one point. protesters shut down both directions of interstate 5-80. causing a major concern for drivers. earlier today, we took those concerns to the c-h-p. they say they have formed a task force. specifically designed to alleviate tha problem tonight.

the race for mayor in oakland is heating up. some of the top candidates are making a last push for votes. kron4's jeff bush is live in oakland -- jeff? cabinets coming down to the wire here for the oakland mayor race most of the mayorial candidates were making their case at the head royce school on monday afternooneach of them laying out their vision for the years to come in oakland. it was a packed housefull of curious voters who wanted to hear each candidates position on some of the most pressing issues facing the city of oakland. not surprisingly, crime was high on the list of voter concerns. this city can become a much safer city. after the forum the candidates spread out over the city to continue to drive home their agenda's and ideas for the future. you know it is a very close race in the closing days of this competition, everybody's got a chance if n it every voter is needed people are loving having opportunity with the canada export there lots of voters who haven't decided where to go so that election is wide open we have
