and at the port of oakland, a big sideshow. of police cars rushing to the scene. >> and kpix 5's anne makovec joins us now from the newsroom with he details on this story. >> reporter: these sideshows are very risky not only could there be car accidents, spectators are often hit and last night shots were fired. we caught a lot of the action from chopper 5 a car doing donuts in the street at 7th and maritime near the port of oakland. sideshows are illegal but have been going on in oakland for years, sometimes several cars are going at one time. there were hundreds of people watching at any given point taking their chances really by doing so. we have seen these cars veer out of control into the crowd on several occasions. so where were the police during all of this? first, we saw several patrol cars just standing by for some time blocked and then they grew in numbers blocking in everybody at the scene and then spectators some of the people also performing in the show they tried to use that red van to crash through a cyclone fence
