we're talking about a seven-year buildup to olympic games. we spent theest part of $20 million on a massive restructure of east london, a big regeneration program. it's a very poor part of london. we built a massive olympic park and the impact it's had on the capital and the economics on the capital have been hugely positive. >> so it was worth spending all the money and the time to get the olympics? >> without question. but you can organize a successful sport event and you can organize an unsuccessful sport event. getting it right is challenging. it's very difficult putting these massive projects together and getting particularly the structure, the infrastructure, right and in place. >> do certain things have to happen in a specific order before you even get to the breaking ground? >> you need to have political support. at a federal level and at a city level. and down at a local level. if you haven't got political support -- because you're rehousing lots of people, you're moving companies, you're looking at a planning commission, you're having to open ne

you'll be happy to hear if you're an nbc viewer, the olympics, the international olympic committee, has today awarded nbc-universal the broadcast rights in the u.s. for the olympic games through the year 2032. so a big deal here. 2032. steve burke, the ceo of nbc-universal saying they're announcing this particular extension, the extension of the partnership with ioc is unprecedented in scope, and it's the longest u.s. olympic sports rights agreement in history. he goes on to say, steve burke, our olympic coverage has been the gold standard for the last three decades, in that this is one of the most important days in the history of nbc-universal. the olympics are a part of the fabric of our company. of course, nbc-universal is the parent company of this network, cnbc. again, broadcast rights for the olympics have been extended for nbc-universal through the year 2032, so a very, very long extension. the longest ever in u.s. olympic broadcast history, scott. back over to you guys. >> yeah, dom, thanks. congratulations to them. exciting news for all of us, all of the nbc -- >> mark lazarus

does brazil face losing the opportunity to host the olympics? >> i don't think that brazil will have the opportunity to lose the olympics. it will be a geopolitical nightmare on the international stage, that neither the ioc nor brazil wants to get into. what we see from the ioc is a hedging of bets, because they are the mostly interested in protecting its brand, sponsors, and the image of the ioc. they realise things are not going according to the ioc schedule, and are blaming rio. they are reacting to this by blaming the ioc, saying this is a colonialist perspective on the way things happen with brazil. the criticisms happen every time the olympics happen, every time the world cup happens. it's part of the existential conditions. delays, cost overruns, security concerns. when the ioc comes out and says these things, they are reflecting their own desires for the city, and not attending to the demands that we have in brazil, which is to have better schools, hospitals, transportation and san tags. if the ioc is complaining, or saying in the interna
