as nicole mentioned, there were many discussions in the community with residents and community organizations. what surfaced was a priority. that priority was for you. in particular, we looked at the development of programs that would provide enrichment opportunities, the employment opportunities, and opportunities for young people to creatively express themselves through the arts. so with that, in the summer of 2010, we launched the powerhouse arts project, a project that focuses on four different disciplines, media, literary, culinary, technical and design parts, for young people between the ages of 14 and 17. we were able to get funding through the department of children and families to provide wages and stipends for young people participating in those programs. we worked with a number of leading arts organizations throughout the city to provide instructors, artists, access to unique facilities throughout this facility, such as museums and galleries for our young people, who would otherwise might not have access to any of this. you are going to hear a little bit about the building later in
