number down to about 85 in the whole park. the concourse authority asked us to continue looking for other spaces. in some key locations, we were looking at narrowing the second track a little bit. it would still be relatively wide enough for people to ride side-by-side. less comfortable, but it is possible. we could get it down to about 60 spaces lost in these areas, plus an additional 611 farther from the key destinations. we're talking about a loss of about 54 spaces in the entire park at this point. as part of our project, we're not talking about just putting down paint in being done with it. we're looking at education enforcement evaluation. there is an affirmation that portland put out when they did their cycle track. on the laugh, you see a website that shows how it is supposed to work, and we could also hand out a pamphlet which discusses how people are supposed to use the facility. and with that, a timeline generally of what we have been doing, when we have been doing it, and when we plan to implement it. we have now go

we have looked at the concerns about parking removal. the mayor shares those concerns, so the asked the mta to do everything they could to minimize the parking losses. we feel very comfortable, though it is not desirable to lose those 55 spaces would tend near the institutions, we feel that the pros outweighed the cons on the parking site in terms of increasing activity to the institutions and the park. the mayor shares the concerns about possible impact on pedestrians and disabled park users. the mayor's office on disability has been working with the mta on the project generally. but as susan mentioned, not this specific design. but we feel the current design minimizes in the expected negative impact. as the mta pointed out, we have seen cases in other cities around the country where they have seen a decrease in pedestrian and bicycle conflicts. i know that mta commissioner or the board member who is a wheelchair-user is also a very strong supporter of this project. we fell that jfk protected by way would be a tremendous benefit to the p

poppy harlow joins us live from the park. tell us what's going on. >> i've been here for about 2 1/2 hours. i got here at about 1:30 in the morning after getting a call from one of the protesters. the sentiment down here, it's not believed they will be allowed back in the park. they believe they won't be allowed back in. what you see to my right are a number of protesters, other people who woke up in the middle of the night or who came down to witness what was going on. what you see here to my left is a barricade and a number of new york city police officers here in full riot gear. this is the separation line. we're about a block and a half away from zuccotti park where the occupy wall street movement started in september. we have not been allowed past the police barricade. we've tried at a number of locations to get into the park for the last 2 1/2 hours. we have not been told why we're not allowed in the park. i spoke on the phone with a number of protesters in the park. some of them have locked arms together and have refuse

they swarmed the park, the perimeter of the park and surrounded it and then they all stayed on the perimeter and they turned on these huge lights, lit up the entire area. more police just started moving in. they sort of gathered around the perimeter of the park and started to make announcements for people to leave the park and were passing out pamphlets to people in the park and outside saying, you know, you have to leave. if you don't leave, you will be arrested. >> the police are characterizing this confrontation, if you want to call it that as largely peaceful. is that your impression of it as you see it with your own eyes? >> that is my impression. the police are pretty patient with most of the protesters. there was a group of about 100 that didn't leave the park and police sort of cleared the park around them sort of. they were in the middle and the police kind of were cleaning the park around them. and then finally, maybe about a half hour or so ago, they arrested them. had to use some force. it's not like there wasn't a lot of fighting, let's say, or the protesters are not resisting.

we're hearing the park is back open. so have police allowed the protesters to go back, like they said they would? >> reporter: so far, no. so far we've still got police as far as we can tell surrounding the park, but it is all cleaned out. we made it in the park about an hour ago, and we saw, really, what was left of occupy wall street, which was piles of tents and debris and clothing after the police came in here around 1:00 a.m. to clear out the protesters. what you see behind me, police in full riot gear. we've been reporting since about 2:00 a.m. live. it took as three hours to get past the police barricades. they weren't even allowing press in to finally get in the park and see what had happened. i can tell you according to an occupy wall street spokeswoman, about 14 protesters arrested, possibly more. we saw some handcuffed and led on to nypd buses about an hour ago, but the park is completely cleared out. the mayor has said, he tweeted in the middle of the night, that the protesters will be allowed back in. the bac

the other half of the glen park team, the glen park and john likes to refer to the glen park community plan as the feel good plan of the season and there is a lot to like about the plan and the plan is enjoying broad community support through an extensive community outreach effort that we have engaged in with the plan. what i would like to do is give a quick recap on the plan and we'll discuss in detail some of the actions we will be asking you to take today. as we are all familiar with, the glen park is focused and the bart station and the commercial distribution with connections to glen park and san jose avenue. and what's really special about this area is it is a really highly transit intensive and pedestrian intensive area. about 9,000 riders use the area around the bart station and what is amazing is half of the 9,000 arrive by walking. 80% of the people using the area to access the transit services arrive by transit or walking. and the plan is attempting to do four primary thins. the first is to protect and enhance the character of glen park and the unique character and especiall
