within the national parks, particularly yosemite, some of the colorado parks, what's the national park service doing about purchasing the inholdings that commercial developers are trying to purchase and develop into resorts, things like that? the water conservation fund was one funding source. what's the status of that whole system? >> an excellent question. the land and water conservation fund provides revenues for acquisition not only by, as you well know, by the federal government, but also by state government and also land and water conservation funds are available to tribal governments and a government-to-government relationship. i know personally that there are many inholders throughout the national parks system. something i personally experienced when i was in the virgin island national park. the dollars that are available are not adequate to meet the acquisition of all the so-called inholder. progress is being made. there are some private individuals, some corporations, that are requiring of many of these inholders and then donating free of charge to the government to include a

we go from the private park to the public park. we go from the parkway connecting prospect park to another park in brooklyn to a parkway designed for rapid transit. we see architecture creating new kind of landscapes which hadn't previously existed. okay. a couple other aspects about urban and regional parkways. it was used to get people from new york to the catskills. part of the reason to create the taconic parkway was to connect the commercial stronghold of new york city to the capitol, albany, right? so people could have this convenient transportation, particularly in the 1930s prior to common air traffic, right? so urban and regional parkways easily become for commuting traffic. initially they are intrastates. they are done by a state highway commission. not a park commission but a state highway commission. other ones, we talked about baltimore and washington. if anyone has been in new jersey, the garden state parkway is another great example of an intrastate parkway system. regionally and locally, lilac way in minnesota. anyon

a showdown in the parks took place as a legal battle went on in court. the milwaukee county sheriff's deputies approached the people in the park first to say they would close at 6:00, then 7:00. then the ruling came down and the people were told it's back to normal hours. that's it. >> reporter: the people using the park asked sheriff david clark to come to sherman park and tell them why they have to leave. >> he puts the residents in between, in the end of the day, the residents didn't do anything. >> the people in the park said they were going to stay. >> they ordered the park open to the regular hours. i think the people in the sherman park area deserves for park. the park should have never been be it in this position in the first place. >> people say if other areas of the county can celebrate the labor day weekend until 10:00 in the park, it isn't fair their families can't as well. >> the people who suffered. the children were -- the children were -- that's up to the people. >> as you can see, the people are moving out of the park. the vehicles, the s

'we had unrest on the 13th and fourteenth of august and none upheld the restraining order 'nothing in the record to indicate closing the park is serving any public good.' ...while pointing out clarke's absence from the proceedings. 'by not showing up here i think its a contemptuous act. now the judge did not actually hold sheriff clarke in contempt but threatened to do so if

a judge has settled the fight over a fence, and when the park will open and close. adrienne: an emergency ruling coming in favor of county executive chris abele. the judge says the fence needs to be removed. 12 news ben hutchison joins us live at sherman park. the fence is still up? ben: adrienne, that judge tonight saying it needs to be taken down as soon as possible. the park is back to normal hours, 6:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m., closing just a short time ago. the day started with county executive abele here with workers to remove the fence. by this afternoon, sheriff david clarke had deputies replacing it. sheriff clarke was also served paperwork that abele's office was seeking a temporary restraining order looking to end the early closures at sherman park, and for the fence to be taken down. shortly before 8:00 tonight at a special hearing, judge david hansher ruled in favor of the >> i understand for a short period of time the sheriff closing the park at night, but again, there's nothing in the record to indicate closing the park is serving any public good. >> i think i

debating the future of sherman park. later today a court hearing is scheduling and talking about the hours and the fence up around it. it is nearly a month since the unrest in the neighborhood. now, the county executive and the sheriff don't agree on what to do next. wisn 12 news mike anderson is live with a look good morning, mike. >> good morning, ben, the milwaukee parks are closed 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and there is a lot of debate about the hours and as you mentioned, we are talking about sherman park. last month the sheriff david clark had orange fencing put up around the park after a spike of violent unrest in the that lasted until sunday when chris abele had the fencing removed. sheriff david clark disagreed and had the fencing put back up. later the day a judge issued a restraining order stopping from the sheriff closing the park early add ordering the fence to be taken done. there is a court hearing on this this morning and we today a final decision on what the hours will be. we'll keep you posted on the court

the judge ruled the park will resume normal hours...for now. deandra corinthios is live near there was a hearing last night. and another hearing is set for wednesday to settle the issue. the disagreement between the milwaukee county sheriff...and county executive...revolved around the orange fence that had been up around sherman park since the unrest. county executive chris abele felt the fence was doing more harm than good...creating a barrier and preventing the neighborhood from healing. he ordered the fec the sheriff ordered it back up later in the day. eventually a milwaukee county judge stepped in..and sided with abele. judge david hanscher grew up in the sherman park area and said he understands how important the park is to people in the neighborhood. he ruled the fence was doing irreparable harm..and issued a temporary restraining order against the sheriff. he said the fence should be taken down immediately to preserve the status quo...and avoid further conflict..or protests. and the judge was upset the sheriff didn't show up for the ruli
