13th most visited park in the united states. wherts it's biking or hiking or fishing or kayaking, i'm one of those 2.7 million visitors in ohio's national parks every year. i'll be at the cuyahoga national park with my wife enjoying that beautiful park. so these parks are treasures and they have so many wonderful facilities, but the problem is that over time, we've allowed a maintenance backlog to build up, meaning so many of these buildings and infrastructure, roads, bridges, water systems i talked about be deteriorating to the point that some of them are actually not being used. so if you go to a national park, you may see that a trail is closed or a visitors' center can't be visited. you may see some of the facilities that provide overnight lodging aren't available. why? because our parks are kind of crumbling from within. they may look great on the outside and they're beautiful, but there is now a $12 billion backlog of deferred maintenance at our parks. now, this has become a real problem. by the way, that's equal to nearly

the parks and playgrounds. it includes installation of a new adult fitness -- -- fitness court plaza. we hope and for reopening and fall of 2019. mr president, thank you for reading the letter from one of our happy summer camp parents. it is a sure sign that you are having a great summer when it feels like the weeks are just whizzing by as they are. we are already halfway through summer and with thousands of kids enrolled in the summer camps and programs, this summer we are offering more than 500 camp weeks serving more than 12,000 children in our camps plus thousands more in our learn to swim programs. some fund staffs -- 250 muffins were faked at mega- up. 317 batches of slime have been made throughout our mounting neighbourhood camps this summer. sixteen countries around the world were visited at a -- at adventure up at 141 experiments were conducted at the museum art and science camp. and then just yesterday we had over 700 kids at casey jones bayview park for our annual summer play day which includes a vari

the highway into the park is being closed to allow crews to work in the area more easily and highway 140 has already been more -- closed for more than a week. we have jana katsuyama in the newsroom and after talking with the park ranger about the concern for health and safety, what can you tell us? >> reporter: the park closure tells us thousands of guests must leave the yosemite valley by noon tomorrow and anybody with reservations this week will not be allowed in. this comes at the height of the summer tourism season but parks spokespeople said it is just -- park burning on the western edge of yosemite national park -- covering up the view-- help -- threat to public health and safety. they ordered the temporary closure of all hotels, campgrounds and visitor services in yosemite valley. >> we've had sustained poor air quality for the past four or five days and with the weather outlook for the next few days, it looks like that poor air quality will persist, so it has been a health and safety issue. >> reporter: park officials say people at 600 hotel rooms are being asked to leave and
