the park service was very much in the tourism business. there was a senator from indiana, benjamin harrison, who i don't think ever visited the grand canyon in his life but for some reason was devoted to trying to make the grand canyon national park. three times he proposed bills to make the grand canyon national park. he was elected president and again proposed but could not get it because it took congress to declare a national park. arizonans did not want to see private land taken away from the pioneers and turned into public land. harrison could not do it even when he was president. he did make the grand canyon a national forest which is sort of bogus because inside the canyon there are not many forests. that was one step forward and then teddy roosevelt came along and he was dedicated to the canyon but in a very paradoxical way. teddy roosevelt went to the north rim to go mountain lion hunting. there used to be a lot of mountain lions there and there were hundreds of them that were killed over the years. the forest service hired a rang

we are here at the park at a popular wedding venue along the potomac river.ot given access to the active crime scene. cars are coming out of a very dark area. the crime scene is around the bend where all these cars are coming from. i was able to walk up earlier and i could see a parking lot that was rffed with crime scene tape. police officers were out there with their flashlights looking in the dark and checking aroun a dumpster. you can see the police activity with some of them leaving. the sheriff's office confirms man was shot at this private party when there was a confrontation around 8:30 this evening. the victim who was shot was taken to the hospital. we are told it was not serious injury. the victim is expected to be okay. there is an extensive search going on at this time for the shter. police a working with the victim to try to identify the shooter. of course they are t goingbe talking to anyone here at the party this evening to try to get additial information. loudoun county sheriffs office, many officers are working to try to find that shooter and
