with the layout of the parks and the infrastructure in the presidio park itself. that is a brief overview in the trust and if there are any questions, i would be happy to answer some of those. >> how did you do this assessment, did you hire a consultant and how did the assessment go down? >> i was hired into this position roughly two years ago. i'm relatively new to the trust. some of you may know the previous forester, peter erlich, he was there for many years. there was a change in my position and my superior's position at the same time. >> there was work on the aftermath on the fire in the berkeley hills that was mentioned earlier. she put together some of the plans after that fire for uc berkeley. so we brought her on board and gave recommendations what to do and what we're not doing well enough and where to go from here. we initially had a vegetation management plan that was designed and approved back in the 2000s when the park was initiated. that has some language about fire management how to manage for fires in the park, but our new plan goes into much more

those were the national parks, but we never got there. instead we went up to rona -- roanoke mountain and watch the hang gliders. or do small visits like that. but it was not until one day, one of my high school teachers gave me a call and she said to be aow would you like to park ranger on the blue ridge parkway? i was just coming on my first semester at jm you, i had not traveled anywhere and i said what's a park ranger and where's the park? little did i know that roanoke mountain, where my family had been going on their trips and visits, was a part of the blue ridge parkway. i had been going there all my young life, but never knew that it was a national park. i never saw park ranger there when we were walking on the trails, outside. until i became a park ranger. head onsaw an arrow roanoke mountain until i wore one on my shoulder myself. unbeknownst to me, i already had my own connection to the national parks. i just needed to be shown. after that i was excited to learn more about the national parks. my siblings and i would jump into my

with the exception of the south being the giant's ballpark parking lot. thithis is the purpose of the hearing. second what appears in light green here. the improved parks are mostly irrigated landscape. it mitigates fire risk. for the most part these are on the water side of the embarcadero. we have a large fire break. for us. the prevailing winds are easterly blowing offshore. if there were a grass fire they would move toward the water, not away from it. >> this has been graded and road ways are added in and prepared for leasing. really nothing left. vegetation has been managed. at the port, unlike other agencies, we don't have stands of trees for the 7 and a half-miles of water front we have less than 2000, some of which are on the properties on the maps. seasonably we take down the grasses on the waterfront that are not more fully developed. then we also have, you know, most of the land is rented where we have in the leases requirements to maintain the grounds. we keep an eye on that. enforcement action there. we also work with dhsh on homeless encampme

i'm one of the people that been to these parks. i love seeing these investments and improvements, but the timelines between estimated and actual completion is wildly different. there are a few probabilijects completed early, but most are delivered late. what efforts are you taking as you think of the 2020 bond, to try to get that to line up better so when people's expectations will line up better with what we're seeing. >> that's a good question. i think we continue to learn through the process. one of the things we're doing now is actually having a much more robust timeline for each phase of work. so, maybe sometimes we believe community engagement should take six months. what we're finding out is that it takes closer to a year plus. on much more complicated projects, what we're doing is actually leveraging existing funds to understand the scope of our work better, so that the issues around scoping, around costing can be realized early so we can implement the projects better. you know, also the other part of this is i believe we're

all programs of the national park service. under representative communities grants, which just opened for the new applications season. please do jump in. that wef these programs manage and work with we have places across the country in every county, every state where the national parks service can explore and tell the story of women suffrage. we are looking as the 19th the moment as a watershed moment. it is clearly an important moment in history but also a lot of people got left out. we are talking about the people they got left out of the right 1920 and looking although we have through the civil rights and voting rights act of the 1960's. for our national work we have all these places but also have done work online. we know not all visitors to the national park service resources are on the ground. somewhere digital. we created the women's history website, which includes a very robust 19th amendment subsite. places where women made history site for trip ideas. there are other national programs. we have a handbook coming out, t

local communities allow the governments to turn their islands into a national park. yet the fishing ban in the $25.00 metre conservation zone around the island is still often ignored by the villagers. not only do the park rangers patrol the area they also raise awareness of environmental protection in local villages. during our patrol we saw the tramp traps of be again. still fishing illegally. sometimes the transgression is only minor the borders of the zone aren't always obvious. i reeled in my net but what with the waves of the current it's not straight forward and back these are still waters. the lines of communication are always open between the rangers and the fisherman and that's one reason why the conservation project works on the whole about 10000 people live on the islands everyone is co-operative and the conservationists also have the support of the village chiefs. today they have a gift for the park ranger a boy to mark the $25.00 metres own village chief. wants to teach the younger generation about the importance of conservation. when we were young we nev
