of the public library. you will remember that the president of the library commission was found to have created a willful violation and that her conduct was below the standard for a public official. later that month, the library commission, during a discussion of a service for the public, one of the commissioner said, and i quote him verbatim, "you know last monday when we had met," the commission meets on thursday, "last monday, the commissioners had met, and we talked about how the changes to the printing system would potentially impact staff, as well. i was just wondering if it would be worth it to speak to the public about how it impacts them, as well." you do not have to be a genius to figure out that this is a blatant omission of a non announced meeting of the commissioners. it goes without saying that there was no announcement of a meeting on the previous monday and no explanation offered about why this was a blatantly illegal meeting. i have mentioned this several times. of course, my mentions of it

it is easy to see what the public is outraged. the overreaching by the justice department impacts us here. legislation addressing online infringement hit a roadblock on the floor in part because of the public not trusting the current justice department to do the right thing and instead, i heard from many constituents on this during my 36 town meetings in january, the american people are afraid that the justice department will use power for political censorship in the case of that law. even though all of us know that there is a need for us to do something to stop the stealing of property. that is the kind of impact that this trust has had and affects us all. the stevens prosecution and these other examples are serious problems that i hope will be addressed. not to mention the fact that the bill prosecution costs the taxpayer threefold. first, the cost to investigate. the second, the cost of the investigator, and third the defense attorneys. the cost alone is reason enough for us to discuss these cases in the committee, here, and our
