the puc budget is -- it is an infrastructure-rich organization, as you know. what we spend money on more than anything else is making sure the assets continue to survive. the water system is needed to bring water to 2.5 million customers in the bay area. the waste water system is critical for getting rid of waste water and storm water in san francisco, and the power grid is critical to providing power to san francisco. because of that, we have a long- term view of the world, so typically, we look 30, 40, or 100 years out. so our budget is much more heavily dependent on capital projects and on debt. the budget between the current year and the proposed year is going up by $61 million, and that is the slide you are seeing. you will see that almost all of it is in the water department. i was going to go through water and then with water and then power with a current look and then a five-year low. on the water department, the water department budget is going up $54 million of the $61 million total budget increase for the puc. $41 million is debt service, and that is

little snippets of what is being done in the manual that we have been working on with the puc. it shows different systems, different requirements, what we are expecting at dbi, what puc is putting out there as well and how we're planning to help them. one of the biggest things that will help everybody would be plumbing plan check for especially these types of systems. it will make a lot easier for everyone and save everybody, like i said before, time and money. commissioner murphy: last time you brought it up, there were some issues with the device. the washing machine pumping the gray water out. >> one thing that is actually in the code is the gray water for laundry to landscape. that was in the newspaper the other day of somebody will put one of those in. it shows how you take from the laundry as a single pipe. there's no cutting into the plumbing system, a changing of any piping. that is already installed. all that stays there. then you have the three-way valve, and that takes it directly to the landscape. that is not permanent. we do not see those. because it has no typing

dufty, i was first made to meet with laura spanion of the puc. she acknowledged our many calls to the agency but acknowledge that they had nothing to do with the problem. her demeanor changed upon hearing what i have heard from one of our employees. we have asked for input on our problem of flooding and received a letter that was dated june 2, 2006, from the assistant chief of claims. his basic response, the property owner is completely responsible for the maintenance and repair of a private sewer. these words along with our engineering contractor george wilson cost us approximately $40,000. $40,000 is a large sum of money to be paid for sewer replacement on a three-unit building. george wilson replaced our silver, and that is why i'm standing in front of you this morning. he replaced the store in 2006 without a backwater of all, only to install it with an additional cost after the system goes the first failure. we learned in 2010 that a bath water valve should have been installed at the time of replacement. this information along with puc respons
