for coming in. >> thank you, wolf. >> on this latest terror attack in indonesia, the marriott, the ritz-carlton hotels, is there any intelligence that's coming in right now? i assume you've been briefed that this potentially is the start of a new wave? >> i looked at the intelligence this morning and none of it said this is a new wave. it does identify, you know, possible groups who carried this out. i think it's pretty clear that it was a terrorist attack, that it was meant to be a simultaneous attack, affect two hote hotels, both of them american, and both of them large, well-thought of american hotels. as a matter of fact, in a couple of weeks, my own family was expected to be spending overnight at one of them in jakarta. so it brings home the fact that terror is out there. it is not dead. it is alive and well. and they're attacking american interests. >> based on what you know right now, are these al qaeda groups, al qaeda-associated groups responsible for this simultaneous attack? >> well, the best i'm going to say about that is that it is most likely two groups who wish to associate thems

one in the ritz-carlton and one in the marriott. four other unidentified bodies and they don't know who they are. whether they were guests or victims or part of this terrorist shell, if it is a jemaah cell. they think there were four people checked in. so, it looked like possibly a group of four people and possibly two who have been killed as result of suicide bombing. as for the security, well, both of these hotels or any hotel here are very heavily protected. they check your car when you're going in and they look in the trunk. they put you through an x-ray scanner and put your luggage through an x-ray scanner and normally very heavy security here. they know from attacks in the park that they need to be careful. the question is, how did these explosives get these into the hotel undetected. >> dan rivers there on the scene, thank you very much. >>> president obama released a statement condemning the attacks and we got this just moments ago saying, "the american people stand by the indonesian people at this difficult time and the u.s

the ritz carlton was also hit, windows gaping open, shredded curtains fluttering in the tropical heat. >> i heard a huge explosion. and i looked out my window towards the marriott, and there was a big plume of black and brown smoke going up. >> reporter: and then the shock as news of the dead filtered through to the crowds outside. but then the police move our camera back, as they find a third bomb, undetonated, but live, in a room on the 18th floor. the bomb disposal van moves in, and it's made safe. the police think the terrorists were checked in as guests, using room 1808 as a command-and-control center. the police chief leading the investigation says the explosives recovered were similar to those found in west java, in a house with links to indonesia's most wanted man, nordin top. he is alleged to have links to the shadowy network jemaah islamiyah, or j.i. the marriott has been attacked before by j.i. j.i. were also behind the bombings on the holiday island of bali, seven years ago, which killed more than 200 people, many of them foreign tourists. the reason these two hotels were

marriott hotel, followed by an explosion at the ritz carlton. there are indications these were suicide attacks. the indonesian president said these bombings were carried out but an unsuspected terrorist group. these attacks have the hall marks of a tall al qaeda affiliate group. including the 2002 bombings that killed over 200 people. the head bombmaker has been at large and was feared to be planning another major attack. this is not the first time that the marriott hotel there has been the target of terrorism. viewed as a symbol of the west, in 2003, a carbomb detonated just outside the lobby of the hotel and killed 12 people. this attack has come as a surprise. according to u.s. officials, indonesian law enforcement has come down heavily on groups tied to al qaeda. following a series of terrorist attacks in the country. indonesian security forces have prosecuted members of jamal islamiah, in recent years, forcing the group to go underground. but as the bombings prove, terrorist cells are still able to find the means to carry out such attacks, c
