so in 1927, the top law enforcement official in roanoke, virginia, was the founder of the local kkk, which was the largest kkk in the state. there's picture of them in the book. it was a semi respectful institution. the families were members of the kkk. the train unloads, goes over to the fairgrounds, and that's where they set up. the fairground is where the kkk had had the rallies. so, the side show was the one of the rare places in the circus where segregation broke down because there weren't seats. you walked around. like you would go from-- the crowd would sort of walk from one part of the stage to the other as each act demonstrated their skill or answered some questions. i have a picture of her from the next day so i know what she looked like and i know how the side show worked and the brothers remembering, they're on stage playing one of their songs, and they can't see very well because of their albinism. and every member of the family recounts it the same way, willy elbows george-- and george elbows him and there is our dear old mother, she is not dead. >> and the police come

temperatures out there this evening, the real warm air yesterday has been squeezed down towards virginia. 81 degrees in richmond and roanoke and the cooler air is closer, creeping towards us. you won't feel it until saturday night. a big set up. there's the cold front with the rain that we're tracking along it. also a storm that might become tropical storm auto briefly. some of that tropical moisture, they could get yanked into the front and that is our best chance to see some rain. so here is a look at it hour by hour. tonight is mostly cloudy skies with a chance for a little drizzle and mist and some light shower activity. that's the forecast all the way through midday tomorrow. once we get into tomorrow afternoon and evening, heavier rainfall that will move across the rainfall. tomorrow evening and night, that's the best chance for seeing the heavier rain, but i think that it will be isolated as you might get a few talented pickups of over an inch, but most of us will see less than half of an inch of rain from the whole event. when you're talking about averages keeping up, you just need a lot more. taking a look at satu

our temperatures across the region cooler in some places. forty-one in roanoke rapids and i did see a temperature dip their to about 39. everybody else is in the 40s and 50s right now. forty-five in south hill 43 and roxborough and 45 and rocky mount in wilson. town by town 45 and smithfield -- smithfield 45 in sanford and overnight it tends to hold in the daytime heating and doesn't allow it to escape the atmosphere as quickly. it becomes a little warmer. temperatures are warmer this morning. to the west with a cold front and there is very little rain with us front. it's gonna come across the mountains and it's going to ring out even more of the rain. very little we will see the round here. this is a look at our chance of rain. we start at and i can guarantee we won't see any rain during daylight hours. after sunset we will start to see the chance going up to 30% chance or 35% chance around south hill and virginia by 10:00. and the threat moves through. we get to 30% chance in raleigh at 2:00 a.m. a 50% chance closer to the virginia line. -- fayetteville. we ta
