the s&p at multi-year highs. the dow at multi-year highs. this underlying bid to the market that traders are talking about. you see how we move to the negative territories very early on. this is a typical pattern seen day after day throughout the year. but as the consumer confidence number came out, sitting near the highs for the day. take a look at all the major indiceses. i think there's something very important happening here. i like everything i'm seeing except right here. you don't want to see divergences between the dow industrials and the dow transports. weakness in a number of groups in the transports. overseas shipholding, oil shippers, essentially, tough on rates. their earnings just out. the railroads are weak, fedex and the shippers are weak, united parcel is weak. this is not a good sign, that divergence we're seeing. one thing i do like is all the news around apple. that's moving a lot of the semiconductors that are not only affiliated with apple but even those not affiliated. there's apple, new high. but sandisk, they make tha

take a look at the s&p 500 and this is going back to 2007. golden cross, not to be confused with the cross of gold, which they warned us not to crucify ourselves on. golden cross is what the chartists call it when an index's 50-day moving average crosses above its 200-day moving average. something that happened to the s&p 500 just this morning. why is that considered so bullish? remember what these moving averages represent. the 200-day moving average measures the long-term trajectory. it's the average price of the s&p 500 over the last 200 days, and the 50, with 50-day measures it's short term trajectory, so, when the 50-day crosses above the 200-day, it means that the s&p 500's performance has been improving. the trend over the last two and a half months is better than the trend over the past ten months. that's bullish. as many of the technicians i talked to pointed out, these are lagging indicators meaning they tell you more about the past, not the future. just because the s&p 500 has been getting more positive doesn't mean it will keep get

over 85% of the s&p 500 has been trading lower, the components of the s&p 500. aq and s&p with the sell-off today, now in danger of breaking their five-week win streak. up to this point, it looked like we were going to be up for the week, but now that's in danger. let's start with the market that's been the key all week, the euro. it rallied as there were expectations that we were going to see -- weekly charts obviously -- expectations we would see some resolution of the greek debt crisis, now back down again on the euro. the price of gold has acted like a risk asset this week. it's been keying off the euro as well. we had a pretty good rally earlier in the week. now we're down to $1721. many traders are watching that $1710 level as support. we'll have to wait to see next week what it does with that. oil has been very interesting. our market here in new york, wti crude, approached the $100 a barrel level, failed to get above that. and has pulled back today. more interesting has been the brent crude contract in london. that has just been bulling an eight-day rally
