if you look at specific sectors in the s&p 500, it's absolutely not overbought. look at apple today. we've seen tremendous buying in apple. there's a lot of exciting things going on in technology. even hewlett-packard which is at the bottom of the stack has had a decent run over the past couple of days. so i don't believe that economic data, i don't believe the unknowns that we keep talking about fiscal cliff and europe and news cycles and that kind of thing are going to drive the market down. i actually believe that we're going to slide sideways for the next couple of weeks as the news cycle becomes more and more prevalent, but we're going to pop into the election. i think we're going to have a much more surprising result to the market. we're going to be a tom lee market, not this negativity. i think tom lee at jpmorgan is going to be proven right when he raised his price target for the s&p 500 a few weeks ago. liz: okay, that brings us to the question, though, that if we are, indeed, in this market where people will start turning away from the bad headlines out

the s&p see-sawed most of the day in light volume.although the index rose only a point, it's still hovering near a four year high. consumer discretionary and financial stocks lead the pack today, while utilities were the biggest losers. staples was the biggest decliner today in the s&p, after it reported a huge 32% drop in profits. the company is experiencing an unexpected downturn in its north american stores, and continued weakness abroad. if that wasn't bad news enough, staples also lowered its full year earnings guidance, pushing the stock to a nine-year low. that dismal outlook from staples pressured rivals office depot and office max. both fell 3%. but it was a great day for investors in teen retailer abercrombie and fitch: the biggest gainer in the s&p. the stock rose 9%, after the company reported earnings that were slightly better than expected. but what really helped the stock was word from the c.e.o. that its business is stabilizing, after a rough start to year. target shares also rose today, on better than expected earning

member bloc of american nations has declared solidarity and support for the country condemning the u.k.'s earlier threats to storm its embassy in london to get to the whistleblower. britain has got the latest. it was a meeting that lasted five hours but eventually ecuador got what it wanted out of the meeting essentially the foreign minister made a speech in which he condemned britain for what he called an assault on your sovereignty and eventually what happened was that these thirty four countries signed this resolution which rejects any attempt to put at risk the inviolability of diplomatic premises anywhere in the world and and expressed solidarity and support for ecuador in their offering of asylum to julian our stance but also to continue talks between ecuador and britain to try and sort out their diplomatic problems the usa and canada are members of this organization and they were very much against this meeting from the very beginning and they all say their expressed reservations about the resolution that was passed in the end but it goes to show that particularly in its own region
