the s&p up 16%. we continue to see this widingening divergence between the dow and the s&p 500. g focused more on the new and old economy and so that it's been able to get a lift from both while the dow more focused on the old economy. in terms of the s&p 500, it's being led by utility stocks. pepco holdings and exelon among the biggest gainers this year as investors bid up dividend-paying stocks. energy, the s&p energy sector in second place and health care is the third best performing sector in 2014 led by forest labs up about 65%, allergan up 52% and technology catching up as well, the fourth best performing sector in 2014 getting lifts from electronic arts and chip stocks like sandisk, powering the nasdaq to a 14-year high. lastly, the biggest losers on the s&p 500 so far this year, think retail, think consumer, whole foods, staples, and bed, bath & beyond, all reporting disappointing earnings and are trading down double digits so far this year. but again, a notable gain for the s&p 500, 6% so far in 2014. this despite hawkish banter from the fed, of course now focus turns to

the s&p and the dow on track for yet new record highs. s&p that would be eight records in ten sessions. earlier dow jones industrials hit an everest, as i'm calling it, a mountaintop of the top, the very top. dow jones industrials needs to close at 16,836 or higher, we are well above that right now. let's talk about what's leading stocks higher. for the s&p 500, believe it or not, 57 companies or 11% of the entire index hitting all-time highs. among them kraft foods, ameriprise, ryder systems, and we've got american express, axp, jumping two full percentage points. shares of one company speeding the other way. hertz is down after it reported errors in recent financial reports, hertz saying it'll have to restate numbers from the last three years. that's never good under these circumstances, it's bad, down nearly 9% for hertz right now, getting clipped by $2.69, having trouble recovering any of what it has lost. and moments ago i sat down with ford's outgoing ceo alan mulally. known, perhaps, as the greatest turn around ceo of our generatio
