the pilot project was a joint project that was funded by the s.f. p.u.c. and delivered by the school district. this project was critical at setting up this grant program for success in demonstrating how we can effectively deliver these types of projects. we also conducted stakeholder outreach. we met with the internal departments at the p.u.c., and our city family they'll be interested in participating, a trust for public land and other organizations i'll be interested in participating in the program. so as greg said, the program will be open to all parcels, public and private that can meet the five eligibility criteria. in order to qualify for grants, projects must be located on a parcel within an s.f. p.u.c. sewer system service area, combined or separate. projects also must be able to manage runoff from half an acre of service using green infrastructure and they have to design that green infrastructure to manage the 90th percentile storm for the first .75 inches of rain. teams will also have to demonstrate previous experience, with designing and building

the s.f. p.u.c. and the southeast community facility commission and the community desired the complete renovations and two faces beginning with a smaller renovation to the swing before about just embarking on a night -- larger renovation. we completed phase one renovations in 2014 which enhanced the usability of the classrooms and also added administrative space. before we embarked on the face two, were reevaluated to determine overall cost, efficiency and the impact of the phase one improvements. this evaluation estimated the cost of phase two ranking between $35 million and $40 million. however, the renovation's impact would have been significantly impacted due to outdated plumbing and mechanical systems in the building, the confusing layout, the lack of natural light, and key deficiencies in the overall building systems. in light of these facts, our agency embarked on a multi- strategy, nine month long, stakeholder engagement process to ask residents whether they wanted us to proceed with investing

the s.f. p.u.c., commission and community decided to complete renovations in two phases. after completing phase one renovations we determined a second round of renovations would have limited impact due to the building's dysfunctional layout, lack of natural light and key insufficient buildings. in light we embarked on stakeholder engagement process to ask bayview residents whether they preferred the agency to invest in renovating 1800 oakdale or construct a new southeast community facility. what you see before you is the overview of the outreach we conductd in three stages. the first was grassroots outreach where we knocked on 2400 doors, attended 20 community events and hosted 10 community presentations. we also engaged in community partnerships partnering with 16 bayview based organizations to host focus groups. and leveraged the internet and social media where we generated 26,000 social media impressions and launched a new website to keep residents updated about our progress. overwhelming majority of the residents we reached lived in the 94124 zip code and nearly half o

some awareness building about the s.f. p.u.c. power enterprise brand. some outdoor and digital advertising. we will look at what we have done and see what makes the most sense to invest our resources in in the future. some open house style informational sessions and some more engagement through other partners that we see as well. we really want to get into -- past the traditional public meetings type space and be more innovative about the things we are doing. one of the great examples, if you are able to see the pop up that we did with the global climate summit to, around the 100 years of the power. we gave away snow cones to people and popped up in areas of the climate summit and also in residential areas as well. it was a fun way to educate people about where the power has come from over the last 100 years and where we are moving forward as well. looking into more of it was innovative things keep educating customers. that is a basic wrap up that i wanted to give on that but i'm happy to take any questions you may have around the communications efforts

this really represents the most progressive, most unique process that we have undertaken here at the s.f. p.u.c., and that is to say that for any contract we estimate is going to be valued over $5 million, we utilize that solicitation process through the r.f.p. to embed community benefit criteria to say to our private partners, come join us and give back to the communities that you're going to be doing work in. and this really is an important note that i'd like to emphasize, which is this process is completely voluntary for our contractors in the r.f.p. process. they are eligible to receive up to 5% of the overall r.f.p. points. typically, that's five out of 100, sometimes not quite out of 100, but it's 5%. and it's a voluntary commitment. that is, they can leave that part of the r.f.p. blank, and, in fact, some firms have and they've still been a successful proposer, but practically speaking, most people like to get a little extra credit where they can, and so that is the point where firms will tell us what they are willing to give back to the community in the form of in-kind contributions, vo
