that was, at -- in a way, and appreciation from the city of san francisco for the musical legends. e a lot of people in san francisco don't realize what resources there are at the library. we had a film series, the s.f. punk film series that i put together. it was nearly sold out every single night. people were so appreciative that someone was bringing this for them. it is free. everything in the library is free. >> it it is also a film producer who has a film coming out. maybe in 2018 about crime. what is the title of it? >> it is called san francisco first and only rock 'n' roll movie. crime, 1978. [laughter] >> when i first went to the art institute before the adventures were formed in 77, i was going to be a painter. i did not know i would turn into a punk singer. i got back into painting and i mostly do portraiture and figurative painting. one of the things about this job here is i discovered some great resources for images for my painting. i was looking through these mug shot books that we have here that are from the 1920s. i did a whole series of a mug shot paintings from tho

but in san francisco, we will continue to share the love. an francisco our diverse communities and our small businesses are the bedrock of our cities. here i go. and despite all of these bias attacks, san francisco will continue to open our doors to all. so today, as we know, we are on the eve of the equality act being introduced in the senate, in the house. now, more than ever, we need protections. and, like i said, what happens in san francisco happens throughout the country. so now it is my honor to introduce a champion for lgbt rights and diversitiy for all, our mayor, london breed. >> thank you, claire. it is really great to be here with so many incredible leaders, to really launch something that we shouldn't have to launch. you would think after what happened, especially with the history of our country during the civil rights movement, where african-americans were discriminated against, asian-americans were discriminated against, and so many folks were not welcome to do something as simple as eat at a lunch counter, you would think that

my name is marilyn morelo, and i am an active member of the community here in san francisco. but before i tell you about that, i'd like you to know that my father was an undocumented immigrant, and i understand the crisis that our immigrant community is facing here in san francisco under the current president and the policies that are adversely impacting the most vulnerable in our community. as someone who actually experienced it, with a parent, i can tell you that it's a very, very damaging experience to families that are impacted and then the legacy that the family is left with. however, i've overcome that. and i'm happy to say i will be receiving my doctorate in education on may 11, from the university of of the pacific. and i'm an expert in technology adoption, which is relevant to the police commission because there are emerging technologies which the police commission has considered in the past and will consider in the future, and tasers are one of them. i believe that we need to look at the wealth of research that has become available with the large number of deaths tha

they are in the san francisco history centre's s.f. police department records. ere are so many different things that the library provides for san franciscans that i feel like a lot of people are like, oh, i don't have a library card. i've never been there. they need to come down and check it out and find out what we have. the people who are hiding stuff in their sellers and wondering what to do with these old photos or old junk, whether it is hippie stuff or punk stuff, or stuffestuff from their grandpar, if they bring it here to us, we can preserve it and archive it and make it available to the public in the future. better. san francisco department of . environment is a place where climate hits the street. we know that we don't have all the answers. we need to support our local champions, our local community to find creative solutions and innovations that help us get to zero waste. >> zero waste is sending nothing to landfill or incineration, using reuse and recovery and prevention as ways to achieve zero waste. the grant program is a grant program specifically

[applause] >> the hon. london breed: i'm sure you've heard of belva davis, and how she was not even allowed in the board of supervisors chamber. she had to put her recorder through her hands outside the door in order to hear what was going on, and today, we celebrate so much, so much to be proud of, yet so much work to still be done. we know that there are challenges in this city, but i'm optimistic. i'm hopeful, i'm excited about the future and what we're going to do together. working with this community, we passed neighborhood preference legislation so priority for housing goes to the people who live in our communities first. we continue -- we continue to invest in pushing programs through sheryl davis and the human rights commission so that we

. >> the san francisco carbon fund was started in 2009. it's basically legislation that was passed by the board of supervisors and the mayor's office for the city of san francisco. they passed legislation that said okay, 13% of the cost of the city air travel is going to go into a fund and we're going to use the money in that fund to do local projects that are going to mitigate and sequester greenhouse gas emission. the grants that we're giving, they're anywhere from 15,000 to, say, $80,000 for a two year grant. i'm shawn rosenmoss. i'm the development of community partnerships and carbon fund for the san francisco department of environment. we have an advisory committee that meets once or twice a year to talk about, okay, what are we going to fund? because we want to look at things like equity and innovative projects. >> i heard about the carbon fund because i used to work for the department of environment. i'm a school education team. my name is marcus major. i'm a founding member of climate action now. we started in 2011. our main goal i

the bonds between cork and san francisco has survived famine, fire and floods and earthquakes. of the people in san francisco and that's something we mark and commemorate as we approach our st. patrick's day celebrations. and we all stand on the shoulders of giant, myself included. i follow in the tradition of lord mayor. this is 232 years old and number of lor mayors down through the years died in office and wearing this chain and i know we think about people like mayor ed lee and a great friend and i've met him on numerous occasions when he traveled to cork. so we stand on the shoulders of greatness and it's important to remember the people that came before us. it was great to meet mayor breed yesterday and she's doing a fantastic job. we look forward to seeing her roll out her vision for san francisco in the years ahead and it's think it's in safe hands and that tr tradition will be carried on and i would like to wish you all the best for that. when we compare to the san francisco population. that blacks are over represented where asians are under represented compared to the numbers that we see. there are also transed by sex. males are over half of the san francisco population but 65% of the traffic fatalities. those patterns are different by mode. all bicycles killed last year were male. the voter of pedestrian fatalities were male. two-thirds of drivers who died were male. over the two motorcycles that died, one was male. we also see really serious disparities when we look at homelessness. five people in 2018 were people experiencing homelessness. that makes up 22% of all vision zero fatalities. by contrast just under 1% of the san francisco population is homeless. this is a huge disparity. we think this group may be particularly vulnerable to traffic injuries. when we go to the police data to see the primary collision factors for each fatality, we see year-over-year the same things contribute. last year failure to yield to pedestrians for speed not stopping at red signa

this past year, the san francisco public utilities commission water quality division started receiving many more requests to test for lead in the public school system here in san francisco as a result of legislation that had passed from the state requiring all of the public schools to do lead testing. and so as a result, the public utilities commission and the water quality team in particular was asked to meet with the san francisco unified school district to begin to prioritize which schools to test to meet that state mandate. >> the team that tests, we're a full service environmental laboratory, and we take care of both the needs of the water quality division and the waste water enter price. and on the water quality enterprise, we have to also have drinking water that meets all federal and state quality regulations. and lead in schools, we're playing a problem in remediating this problem of lead in schools. >> our role here in communications is being able to take the data that we have that we know is protective of public health and safety and transmit it, give it to the public in a w

i i am now the executive director of the administrators of san francisco, and we are part of the federal association of school administrators afl/cio local three. i was born and raised in san francisco. went to all the schools in the mission, went to public colleges, and became a teacher in our district. but first, i was an active parent, outspoken, and they pulled me up to be a special ed paraprofessional, and i was so strong because i had grownup in the mission, i could handle it. i became a substitute teacher. then, i became a middle schoolteacher, and then for 13 years, i had the honor to serve our teachers as supervisor of pathways for paraprofessionals and teachers, and now i'm serving our administrators as part of the union. i'm here tonight to ask you to please renew contracts. notice some of them are for one years, some of them are for three years. we don't get tenured. you have the opportunity to see us over and over, so -- but i'm here for one special person that i have spent many years working with, and that's patricia deietrich. she's currently working in special education.

one of the mistakes that people in san francisco finally realized, when the san francisco development agency was dissolved, they had created all of these parks. and even as i speak, the city is still grappling with the maintenance of all of those parks. here you have all of these assets, all over the place throughout the city. and we do not know what they're going to look like in 20 years' time and even don't talk about the 30 years. we have the responsibility here at this agency for the maintenance, for some of the spaces, our responsibility. and what we need to do is broaden this, so we're not gephart changing ourself -- we're not short changing ourselves into any models, given again all of the mistakes in san francisco. what i would suggest, we sneed to engage in an exercise for the administration. we need to create private entities of the administration of this park. we have discussed the c.f.d. option. there are limitations. there are still some holes to plug in there. and again looking at some of the successful models in the country, we will need to engage in those exercises so

ambassadors who have continued to make sure that soma west is a thriving community in the city and county of san franciscothe people who play an important role in adding number 17, community districts in the city, and also one of the largest community business districts in san francisco where the revenues generated here will not only pay for additional services, but will provide marketing and support to enhance the experiences of this neighbourhood. you know, what i love most about san francisco is when things work, and when things come together, and so this is one of those instances where everyone came together for one common goal, to make something amazing happen for a community that definitely deserves it, so it is my honour to be here today to sign this legislation so that we can start collecting the dose so that we can start investing the money, and so we can get to work to make this one of the best neighbourhoods in the city and county of san francisco. so thank you all so much for being here today. but most importantly, working for the city and county of san francisco gives employees an opportunity to contribute their ideas, energy, and commitment to shape the city's future. - thank you for considering a career with the city and county of san francisco. good morning. thank you all for being here and i'm happy to be join bid supervisor from district ten and our new director of the department of public health. also here are the people from my office working tirelessly to help protect another generation of san francisco youth from becoming addicted to ecigarettes. that has been lead my chief deputy and chief of strategic advocacy, sarah eeisneburg. in december, the u.s. surgeon general, jerome adams, issued a warning of the epidemic of ecigarette use and called this a cause of great concern. know the risks, take action, protect our kids. he was absolutely correct and we're heeding that warning. today we are taking action to protect our young people. the steps we are taking are necessary and all the more urgent because another arm of the federal government has failed to do its job.

last year she received the letter that every tenant living in san francisco fears, she received a notice of the eviction at her building. this is the third eviction notice that karen has received and no fault eviction at various residences around san francisco. but this time karen decided to fight. she organized her fellow tenants and made it clear that she and her artist housemates would not go quietly. she was and remains determined to not be one of the hundreds of district 8 residents to be displaced over the last decade, and she's not stopped there, with just her own building. karen has taken the next step to help her fellow san franciscans. last week she organized and to get out the word to make sure her neighbors were aware of their rights and stand up for no cause evictions. last year she received a year extension, but that will expire the end of this month. karen will keep on fighting and continue to inspire others to stand up and in the best of san francisco, best san francisco tradition, organize and fight back. on behalf of the board of supervisors, i want to extend my heartfe
