that's what you'll see in the san mateo county coast. our power grids are reliable with many different connection points. when you live on the san mateo county coast, you could be without power for weeks. that's really what's causing this issue. right now if you look at the county coast and the south coast, we do not have a network. some areas where there is no network at all. similarly we don't have a reliable internet network. there are some areas where there is absolutely no fiber. now imagine on the san mateo county coast, somehow incredibly, that cellular network was completely built out in that fiber network that was built out. still wouldn't solve the problem. the issue, the dependency is the power grid. the power grid, if that goes out, people won't be able to reach out. the big issue is that with those landlines, that landline is powered from a generation point far away from that local outage. they will do it in that generation point that will travel out. they stay active even in the power outages. that's really the issue that we

the east bay. it is heavy rain coast side were san mateo county. you can see the rain, a leading edge shower that has developed over the south bay. heavier stuff as it hits the topography along the santa clara county coastline. that is a little preview. i want to put this into futurecast to watch what develops here. that is the organized line that will be coming through tonight. that gets us ahead until 9:00. we are seeing some of the better rain come right around the majority of the bay. from there, it keeps going. now, we are seeing some of the best rain of the evening and it shows up at about 11:00 tonight. then, by midnight, the line will clear. this will keep the roads slick on the evening commute home. that is something you got to take into consideration. it won't be terrible downpours but it will be enough rain that things will get wet. maybe a straggler or two on thursday but we can't rule out the chance of an isolated shower on tuesday -- thursday. any rain on thursday would be short-lived. if we add it all up, the totals are manageable for

also the sanford south, san francisco police department here along with the summit, county sheriff's office and the san mateo county district attorney. we are learning some new some new information here just in the last 20 minutes or so. let's go and take a look some video from earlier today. now, according to the pacifica police department, they received a 9-1-1 call around 9.41. this morning from a man claiming that he had been shot by his mother at a home in the 2500 block of francisco. when officers arrived on scene, they found that woman attempting to leave the area in a car. they then confronted her and she according to police, pointed a firearm at the officers there that there was then an exchange of gunfire and that woman died at the scene at this point. it's unclear any of the officers were injured. we also know that her son was apparently taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition now since early this this entire block has been closed down as the investigation here continues. we're told that the san mateo county district attorney's office will now take over

when we look at bay area counties as we can see in the graph they are below they are. we could see san mateo county and sonoma county that follow. the santa cruz is just building faster and more a dus. >> that is interesting. i know you got a chance to speak with contractors about this. >> contractors are pleased because they said the streamline process is coming from state policy and city policies. is making it way easier for them. they don't have to go through public hearings or neighborhood input. in one of the things i learned is that if they already have pre-approved plans that may be there neighbor gifts to them, they can use those and they are saving a lot of money this way. >> so much easier for them. saving money a lot quicker. you got to speak with the city planner in santa cruz. >> the city is telling us that they have just been on top of this. they've been ahead of the game. and when state guidelines came in they tried to get ahead in the early 2000's they started streamlining this process for residents. this is really helped. obviously rules and regulations continued to change.
