at the corner of south wolf road and el camino real. santa clara police had stopped the mercedes, in connection with an auto burglary case, when the driver hit the gas, h eading toward the officer, who then opened fire on the car. the santa clara officer, who was not hurt, has been placed on paid administrative leave. it is not known whether anyone in the mercedes was hurt. the suspect vehicle was last seen speeding away from the scene. northbound on south wolf road. gas prices are on the rise again. many suggest it is partly due to a local refinery strike in martinez. at the tesoro refinery in martinez, workers are pickecting for the second week of the strike. the united steelworkers are ready to stay out for as long as it takes. to make this and other refineries safer. tesoro is now one of 11- refineries on strike across the country. strikers say, the big issues are safety and health, not money. we make good money, yes, but we are out here in a dangerous situation day in and day out. the strike is showing no signs of ending soon. if it goes

calistoga road to the east of santa rosa is where we are seeing the better radar runs between santa rosand windsor along with 101 and spotty showers between petaluma and novato in the high country and same on lucas valley road headed to lucas valley around san quentin and scattered showers from sfo to the santa cruz mountains. and headed to san ramon and livermore reporting light rain the last 45 minutes. in san rafael dry and notice the lack of fog. 101 will be wet for the better part of commute. you can see the lower left-hand side the flags unfurled and blowing to the east and it is still breezy. by the afternoon hours, it will be dry and calmer for the commute and clearing and cooler tonight with just almosted fog because dry air is going to rush in behind the system and we will have willing warmth through the weekend and regard highs for valentine's day. do you do a fancy dinner? maybe a picnic. 7:00 this morning through 12:00 the best chance of radar return or wet weather in the north bay and by 3:00 it is gone with clearing after the sunset and it will be gorgeous and by tomorrow

our rain totals arounds the bay area probably highest around the santa cruz mountains. some spots could miss out on a lot of miserable rainfall. other areas around the thundershowers in the south bay may pick up about a quarter inch or so. the backdrop of the storm in the sierra, 17% of average is the snowpack in the northern and central sierra. we forecast what we hope is a foot of snow coming in off the system, that is significant. snow levels down to 3,500 feet or 4,000 feet north of interstate 80 and closer to 4,000 feet south of highway 50. so winter-like driving starting late today into saturday and we certainly need it there in the sierra. today, breezy and cool, slight chance of showers, slight risk of thunder for your saturday afternoon, and skies clear. second half of the weekend right now looks good for the outdoor plans. we'll see highs rebounding slightly towards sunday and another weak system bringing a few showers come monday. now watching a tough commute around hayward this morning. let's send it over to mike. >> we have the backup in hayward, also at the

you see that blob right there just north of the santa rosa area and due west. nkles having noted around mendocino and that's all we're really going to get today. everybody will be mostly cloudy and increasing winds out of the south. and because of the cloud cover right now, we do have temperatures not 40s and 50s. we have a flood watch in effect in anticipation of the 10" of rain that will accumulate in the highest elevations of the north bay mountains. in addition to that, watch, we now have an advisory for gusty winds up to 50 miles per hour anticipated along the entire bay area. the coastal range will see wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. this is an awesome looking area of low pressure. it's textbook perfect. you can see the core of it right there. what this is doing is tapping into a fetch of moisture referred to as the atmospheric river or we call it the pineapple express because it's located on the western hemisphere. today with the very mild conditions and increasing rain in the 60s, we will see the heaviest rain on friday, a break on saturday, heavy ra
