your calendar relating to the -- are items one through 10 of the items on your calendar relating to the sfpuc. the big story at the puc is that we have put forward a five-year rate package three years ago. we have two years left. we have not had as much water falling from the sky and as much water sales in the last year or two, so our revenues are down, but we wanted to stay true to our great package, so we have left those rates in place. in general, you will see a total budget that is lower the first year and somewhat higher the second year, but its capital and operating. the real story is infrastructure. the other story is that we will be spending a lot of money, even if it is somewhat less than the current year. you can do it right or you can do it wrong. we have been trying to do it right with things like global jobs, benefits, language access and those kinds of things. i also wanted to start off by saying that we are in agreement with mr. rose on his proposed cuts for today. i especially want to thank its staff -- his staff for all the work they did on this budget, and obviously, mr. ros

the main areas of focus is our work force development and maximizing workforce opportunities at the sfpuc. this slide is to give you a flavor of what we have been doing over the last year. the puc played a central role working with the office support for the development in developing an implementation plan as it relates to a local hire ordinance. external affairs staff have also been working closely with the power enterprise to develop a job strategy as it relates to the energy efficiency program, and this builds off of interest from the board of supervisors, who asked us to explore these opportunities as part of the budget process last year. finally, we're working with each of the different enterprises to begin a conversation about working with the development rfp's that would allow us to have a pool of consultants to work with each of the enterprises as it makes sense to build our capacity to maximize jobs in the different enterprises. another area of work as part of the community benefits program that we have been a very excited about is incorporating community benefits requirements in

transportation side of it, aside from the needs of the campaign, we see young people at the table now with sfpuc and sfmta. it will be a two-year pilot and we are hearing many students, many in middle school and high school, how they want a program to work. we have been working to design an education and outreach component. the education component is ready to kick off. surveys have been done with high school students and middle school students to understand the relationship with public transit, their needs, and hal muni can work for this demographic of young people. additionally, about which campaigns are being talked about by young people. they are asking, how can we let more young people know about this program? this is something that will build that sense of lifelong ridership that the ta cares about for the next generation of writers. >> thank you. next speaker. >> i am

the c.c.a. program. to further that task, we entered into an mou with sfpuc in 2009 which provided non-general fund funds to provide for those activities and subsequently this commission, through working with city and county staff, authorized the hiring of two staff -- or, actually, the setting up of two staff positions for that work. mr. fried was hired in our senior program officer position. the community development assistant, we did originally fill. that person left the job. i've not refilled it because that position is really for once we get into program launch, but those two positions are term positions and they were to be termed out as of august of 2012. so this item before you is to extend that, since we've had an extension of the launch of our c.c.a. program, is to extend that term another year. by that time, we believe the program will be launched. if you've got other questions, i'd be happy to answer them. chairperson campos: thank you very much, miss miller. i think the extension makes sense. i think that at the time this happened, the expectation was that we wouldn't need the positions for a
