there is the center of it, notice how it is just off the shore. we're talking about now about 3f course this continues to spin its way. here's where we are at. close to the island, these bands, that's where you see the strongest winds and that's where the winds would be over 100 miles per hour. we have seen gusts near the coast, well over 70. there is the eye, as i mentioned, 36 miles off the shore right at this point. but it's the spiral bands that surround that center where you what about wind? we have had a number of gusts especially at the beach. well over 70 miles per hour. and melbourne still, winds gusting over 6 six miles per hour. and i think that the path of this will put it across cocoa beach but we're not getting reports out of there, but daytona beach also may be really kind of in the focus area for the strong winds later this morning. right now the sustained winds at 38 and gusting to 55 out there. so this is a hurricane area, of wind, the winds above 74 miles per hour, and see how it 11:00. and then it will budge back outside, and ev

the wind is blowing at the shore. things have dried out. not a single drop left on beach avenue after heavy downpours overnight. it's the drying wind that's blowing in philadelphia. the temperature is down to 50 degrees. it will likely drop into the 40s within the next hour and be at 48 degrees at 8:00. and then, with the winds out of the northwest at 20 miles an hour, look at this, the temperature holdsç steady from 8:00 to 10:00 and then just into the 50s this afternoon. typically this time of year, middle 60s for high temperatures. not happening today. 46 in the suburbs. plenty of sunshine. you'll feel that same wind blowing this afternoon. at lunch time, 49 degrees. 52 degrees at 4:00 today. a few scattered clouds in the lehigh valley. that's a live picture from easton. some of the those clouds, 47 degrees right now. those are not rain clouds. they will blow out of the lehigh valley. 40s this morning and into the afternoon. low 50s later today with sunny skies. sunshine will be bright in new jersey. you can see winds gusting to 30 miles

even into sunday morning rain could hang on down the shore. lets zoom in and we will time this out so you can plan your weekend. tomorrow is fine. tomorrow we will have cloud, stray shower, morning should be quiet and then in the afternoon, light to moderate rain especially from the city on south and east, scattered showers to the north and west, steadier rain overnight tomorrow night into sunday morning for shore and delaware and then we will clear it out west to east on sunday. so, again overnight clouds increase, 59 degrees, tomorrow looks mostly cloudy, period of rain especially in the afternoon and at night and then heaviest down the shore where wind could pick up gusting to 25 or 30 miles an hour. and, seven day forecast, sunday depend where you, cloudy day all daze down the shore, beautiful sunny day far north and west and we will see clouds breaks on sun. monday and tuesday cool, sunny overnight lows in the 40's and back to the 07's by middle of next week. once we get through tomorrow improving weather and matthew should head far away.

that may clip the shore, but it is creeping to the northeast.e also have a line of showers and thunderstorms that sits directly to the south. that likely will bring some rain as we move along late morning. looking way to the south, strong showers and thunderstorms sitting south of north carolina. that leads to isolated shower activity late day and even into sunday, some spot storms are possible. for now this morning things are okay to get outside. it is cool and breezy but cloudy. we're not tracking the rain, some fog or light drizzle mist may be present outside in areas not picking up on radar. the hour by hour forecast shows as you move through the morning, 7:30, good job of showing us where showers currently sit which is barely to the west of us. put this in motion at 7:30 in the morning to 3:00 in the afternoon. now we have a line of storms pressing along in parts of new jersey and along the shore, into delaware as well. delaware has been inundated with water, talking very large values. 8 to 12 inches of rain in some areas of suffolk county.

the jersey shore learned a lot from hurricane sandy. many changes have been made to make sure people are ready for the next big threat. nbc 10 jersey shore bureau reporter ted greenberg explains. >> it's just constant waiting to be done. >> reporter: nearly four years later, work to repair june and donald kulick's house from sandy is still not finished. for the ventner couple, watching coverage of hurricane matthew brings back painful memories. >> every time i see a bad storm coming, i have a little anxiety. >> reporter: like many along the jersey shore, their house is now higher than it was, providing protection from flooding. the kulick's raised their seven feet. most new jersey beaches are more fortified now or soon will be. atlantic county has far more emergency storm supplies on hand than it did prior to the 2012 hurricane, including 1500 cops. >> sandy was a big wake-up call for us. i absolutely believe we're better prepared. >> reporter: prior to sandy, the atlantic county office of emergency preparedness had about a hundred volun

one exception will be the jersey shore at 52 degrees. t 48 degrees, that's at philadelphia international. down to 46 in chestnut hill and andorra. torresdale 49 and 47 in somerton. port richmond is atç 40 degree. the numbers are still falling. the skies are nice and clear with a few scattered clouds in the lehigh valley. the storms we had yesterday, there they go. those clouds with now completely offshore and out of picture for us. but behind those storms that came through last night is the drier, chillier air that you'll feel through the day. 47 degrees at 8:00. by lunch time, 52 degrees and 56 degrees at 4:00 this afternoon. the suburbs, nothing but sunshine. a beautiful fall day. a little bit cooler than normal. 54 degrees this afternoon. that's at 4:00 and the lehigh valley, down to 41 degrees at 8:00 this morning. into the upper 40s at noontime, cool but into the middle 50s this afternoon at 4:00. for delaware, sunny skies and just like the rest of the area, have a nice impact on that temperature into the 50s. the winds will be dyin

lehigh valley, berks county area through to the shore. we'll see the cold front progress and the chance of rain progress as well. in fact this is what we're expecting, your rain time line, from berks county to the lehigh valley, a line of showers, possibly some thunderstorms, as well. those showers and thunderstorms will continue in a line, 6:00 to 7:00 through parts of delaware, near wilmington, philadelphia, trenton, up to about new york city. that's the line we're still drawing on the board. as you continue to drop that down through 10:00 to 11:00, that's when the showers will start to move out. this isn't going to be an all-day soaker. in fact much of the day going to look pretty good across our region with chances starting near the lehigh valley later in the afternoon. philadelphia, precipitation so far we're at 30.2 inches. that's below average by about 4.5 inches and in comparison to last year, we were at 40 inches nearly. so, huge difference that we're seeing and drier year than in the past. and, drier than is average. forecast win

at the shore, i think it's going to stay clear. at's a live view from the cape may marina, into the 70s this afternoon at the shore. 62 degrees in philadelphia, 59 in wilmington and upper 50s for trenton and mt. holly. we'll warm from the 60s and 50s into the 80s this afternoon. some of the suburbs more at risk of seeing fog this morning with those cooler spots. unionville is at 55 degrees. the cooler air can't hold as much water. it produces some fog as it cools down. north wales, 56 degrees while warrenton is 61. new hope is 54. these cooler temperatures won't last long. look at the warmup we're in for this afternoon. even beyond yesterday's temperatures. 83 degrees in center city. somerton and chestnut hill up to 82. plenty of sunshine for the suburbs. 83 in boilztown. west chester hits 80 degrees this afternoon and kutztown, allentown, easton, all into the 80s today. the exception from the 80s will be at the jersey shore, but with sunshine, interior new jersey each of these locations into the 80s. wilmington, 8 degrees this afte

matthew pounded the southwestern shores of haiti. many as 40 inches of rain are possible in some areas. nbc 10 meteorologist krystal klei is tracking matthew. what can you tell us? >> we're looking at the updated track that just came out at 5:00 a.m. not a good look. still have winds at 145 miles per hour, making it a major category 4 hurricane. now starting to move right over land here near haiti. and those areas are looking at up to 40 inches of rain possible as a result of this very strong storm as well as serious storm surge. something we'll be continuing to track, of course, is the updates to this track right here. because it starts to move closer to the u.s. this is your wednesday, still very strong winds that passes cuba, nearing the bahamas. now the track pulling it directly through the bahamas through thursday. still at 125 mile per hour winds, major hurricane. this continues but now look at the updated track, edging right along the coast ofç florida. and still at a category 3. this is on your friday. we go from friday throu
