you can correlate the advancement of the shoreline of san francisco with the potential for liquefaction. >> it is a perfect example. it is all sold and liquefaction. >> treasure island is unique. it was originally developed to be the location of the world fair with the understanding that once it was finished, that would become the location of san francisco international airport. it is 11,000 feet long. in those days, the thought that was more than enough to land any conceivable airplane. they thought it was ideal. they said that we have all kinds of sand out in the bay from the sacramento river. we will take the stand out of the bay and create this island. the sand is loose and below the water. it liquefied in 1957. it liquefied in 1989 during the loma prieta. it was similar to what happened in the marina. >> as they move along and developed treasure island, the developer also has to provide stabilization programs. >> the sand has to be strengthened so that it will not liquefy. the buildings have to gain support below the sand in more confident material. >> we were talking about the wat

. >>> clouds cleared back to near the shoreline. working their way back up into the bay right now. the key headline, we have warmer temperatures for your weekends forecast. right now on the maps i can show you the fog up there banked up just offshore. even pushing locally into the bay as you can pick out from pacifica. daily city, also san francisco, also surging across the bay and the bay bridge. temperatures today a nice warm up for the inland spots. up in the near 90s. san jose topped out 82 degrees. san francisco at 67, you can pick out on the satellite and radar moisture moving in from the south in the form of higher clouds. we're going to have to keep an eye on this primarily to the south of the bay area for late tonight into early tomorrow morning. high pressure will continue to build in and with that circulation it is drawing up some of that moisture from the south. so with that the chance of a thunderstorms down to salinas, holster and king city. overnight tonight into your saturday morning. but for us we'll pick up a few high clouds and for sunday clearing skies, temperat

as the fog bank didn't delight clear from the beach today it did back to the shoreline here for some sunshine but it didn't last very longment it will reappear this evening, settling in as you would expect this time of year. it will be with us first thing in the morning for another cool start to the day. temperatures cooler tomorrow than today. but slightly as we see a couple degree drop, nothing too dramatic here. for the evening, cool 80, out across the interior, cooling through the night, a bit of drizzle again along the shoreline here. the pattern not changing much. just little fluctuation, this high pressure system will creep back towards the east allowing this low to roach the coast and bring more of an onshore flow bye will increase the marine layer and see those subtle fluctuations resulting in the cooling trend that will carry us through mid-we believe as, once again, very subtle changes. nothing dramatic. it is peak fog season, about what you would expect. there's some of those triple digit readings from redding to fresno. clearing the high country this year, the fog will tu

the officers are on the water and the shoreline looking for him. they tell me that they operate under the assumption that the victim survived and needs to be rescued. there are eight agencies that are out there looking for him. officers are searching online and on the water. they checked alcatraz, angel iland, shoreline surrounding the bay. there is no sign of him. there are three people in the canoe. it capsized 6:15 last night. two people made it to shore. the third person stayed behind to retrieve personal items. the other two went home, changed clothes, realized that their friend never made it to shore. they coulded find hism. that's when they notified the coast guard. the canoe capsized near treasure island. the spokesperson for the coast guard told us he doesn't know if the missing man has a life jacket. they'll launch the helicopter as soon as it's light out but until then they are relying on the boat and people on the shoreline. they are asking for anyone with information or nip who has seen anything to give them a call. live from coast guar

you can see on the maps we have a finally a pocket of clearing for parts of the shoreline as we come in, closer to stinson and -- there is the lagoon, enjoying mostly sunny but as we move the map to the south you can pick out the overcast for san francisco, pacifica, half moon bay, down -- he is that patch -- that low cloud level moving across the bay late tonight. so here we go with the forecast. partly cloudy, fog will increase. for this weekend morning fog, temperatures coming down just a few degrees and next week a quiet weather pattern with some warming, bit of a bump in the numbers in the five day forecast. for tomorrow and basically this weekend we are still be tracking the fog bank. temperatures come down just a touch as we head in about saturday and also sunday, sunday will be the coolest day of the weekend, not by much, for the coast patchy fog, temperatures on the cool side around the bay. sykes partly sunny and for the inland plenty of sun, temperatures warming up but the wind speeds crank up. here is the forecast model showing you the increase in the fog. we could have a

as the hurricane approaches land, the wind pushes the water towards the shoreline. that happens in the northeast quadrant of the storm. that's where the winds are coming out of the south and in the northeast, and that just blows and piles the water. the water can't go back out to sea because the wind doesn't allow it, so it just keeps getting higher and higher. if you want to explain this to your kids. just take a glass of water, fill it up to the top of the kut cup and just blow on it. that is all the hurricane is doing. it's pushing the water from one side to the other, and that water will seep over the edge. if you want to do a bigger experiment, take your tub of water and use your house fan and start blowing it across the surface, and you will see the water rise on one side and lower on the other. that's all this is. just on a much, much larger scale. once we get that storm surge and once it piles up along the coast, you got your normal shoreline here, and then what happens is the water levels begin to rise, and they'll continue to rise as the winds begin to shif
