examples of that could be the shoreline parks that are being created at pier 70 that will provide great public value and appreciation of the day -- bay. remediation issues needs to be addressed. karen has been working with the water quality control board, doing a state investigation of pier 70. the requirement is that you have a remedial action plan approved by the regional board before the swap can happen. state lands is there to make sure the trust does not received land that have no way of being cleaned up and used effectively. both the state lands commission and city must approve the exchange. after the bill is adopted, if signed by the governor, we would be back in front of the port commission with a final proposal based on some of the work you have seen today. also, the board of supervisors would have to weigh in. the state lands commission does a lot of titles survey work associated with the exchange to make sure that everything is legal. a few of the other unique portions of the bill. the port could continue to hold non-trust lands at pier 70. this is unusual, really. after a tr

bay mud, which is present close to the shoreline, and the green area, the crown has a very long period. when the earthquake comes, there is a link of time that it takes the ground to go from one, slosh back and forth, measured in seconds. the deeper the bay mud deposits, the greater the length of time it takes for the motion to go one direction and back. so as you approach soft sites, loose sand sites, bay mud sites, the period of the site is long. if you come along and build a tall building, and the ground is going like this, we know that tall buildings, the taller the building, the longer the period, the longer the time it takes to go from one side and back. iand the rule of thumb, every story that you add, it adds a 10th of a second to the period. if you have a 40 story building, you have a building that takes four seconds to go from one side to the other and back. now, that for second building is sitting on 100 feet of bay mud that also has a period of four seconds. the combination of those and harmony, what happens is they amplify the motion and the building will collapse. example

let me take to the shoreline here is yet another plastic bag that is caught up in the brush. here's a giant plastic garbage bag that is also car here. and over here i can show a candy wrapper. a lot of this trashes blown in from the city streets that surround the creek. >> some of the trash that in the open river is blamed on the homeless encampments that can be found here longer river's edge. here is a place where someone has been sleeping and right nearby there is more trash. here is an old newspaper. as well as other old things. they say all this garbage in the waterways ends up polluting the water quality and harming the habitat of the wildlife that make their home here like the ducks that you are looking at resting on the shore. save the day estimates 80 percent of the trash that is down on our beaches come from inland locations like this one so keeping areas like this free of debris is a great way to help keep the coast clean as well. >> save the bay is looking for volunteers to help pick up trash in the hot spot the many other locations around the bay area if you like
