there is high fire danger for the sierra tomorrow. tonight and tomorrow. ey're going to get some heavy downpours but some lightning strikes could start off the fires. look at reno getting quite a bit of lightning. head to the higher country for hiking or camping, prepare for that. if you see lightning take shelter and be away from that. this spinning right here and that's the strong push of the cold marine air and making it nice and deep so tomorrow morning we'll wake up to about 2,000 feet of that. that throw sending that monsoon up in our direction giving us more thunderstormers through the sierra tomorrow. there's a chance some of that could reach napa county and some hills but most will stay across the sairp, nevada. since the fog is so thick tomorrow and it will take a lot longer to burn off, temperatures will close to where we were today. bakersfield to may dear ro and modesto and sacramento, 100 degrees. and high fire danger for reno and lake tahoe due to lightning strikes. bay area highs, 62 in san francisco. lower 60s at the beach. 86 in livermore.

big time thunderstorms over the sierra nevada. an interesting day as we had just about evening across california. still heading out the door right now, looking good. except at the coastline you have the low clouds and the fog. look at all the people flocking to the beach. next to no one out there because it's been so darn cold out to the coastline. you head inland, you got plenty of sunshine. that will be the case the next couple of days. we will see more clouds and cooler temperatures. you know what, it was interesting over the sierra nevada where we had thunderstorms erupting, dozens of lightning strikes. check out the tahoe area, look at the cells rotate through there. dozens of lightning strikes over the past few hours. that is part of the monsoonal moisture that came through there. all right. let's look at the weather in the bay area. it looks like tomorrow we will see sunshine after low clouds and fog early on. it will take longer to burn off. 70s and 80s inland. highs today 82 degrees in livermore. 74 in san jose. 80 livermo

i'm not going to go into heavy detail, i want to take you down here into the sierra madre. i was following routes all over for the house of rain, trying to figure out where the anastazi went when they left house of rain. many of them made the modern pueblos but other groups continued south. i followed pottery trails down into the sierra madre where my wife and two others went out and we came to these cliff dwellings. it seemed like every single cave we looked into had cliff dwellings. and this wasn't a place with trails. this wasn't a known location. many of these sites were pristine. they were just -- it looked as if people had just left suddenly, just like all the stories in here. little cliff dwellings, little granaries, little sites falling apart. larger sites. this site went actually 5 layers deep into this cave. very particular to this region were these shaped storage rooms. this one is about 10 feet high. often they would have door stones sealing them on the top. and they were of all kinds of shapes and sizes, but they specific to that area. that's the smallest one we

we wholeheartedly agreed with the sierra club that the operation and maintenance funds are critical to keeping candlestick park open. on top of the public benefits, there are additional community and public benefits. rhonda will talk about the work force program after me. i want to hit some highlights for you. on an annual basis, the project will create thousands of construction opportunities working with the city, we can make sure they are targeted for southeast residents and that there are opportunities for residents of sentences go as a whole to participate in that. over 10,000 permanent jobs will be created. the project will also be competing $83 million, covering a vast array of programs from first-time home buying, work- force training, construction assistance, scholarship for district 10 residents, investments for health and wellness, as many other programs. i will go through those in detail now. the community first house and fund is nearly $29 million. there's downpayment assistance in district 10. the workforce development fund is approximately $8.9 million contributed by the

but i want to take you to chris sew to the mono on the east sleep of the sierra firefighters are busy battling a dozen firefighters. the fires started after storms and lightning came earlier today. one fire burned more than 1700- acres 45 miles north of reno. it destroyed at least one home near the small community of doyle. other fires burned near bottom town and carson city causing some concerns for residents but not threatening homes there. another fire burning near bridgeport in mono county. cal fire moved strike teams from the coast to the redding areas in anticipation of lightning sparked fires. so far there are no reports of injuries. >>> the big concern for firefighters is that lightning and wind. with more on the thunderstorm activity let's go to ktvu meteorologist mark tamayo. >> ken, not a lot happening in the bay area. but the active area to our east here is the latest on the satellite. switch this over to the radar. see the coverage. been some decrease but still some active weather in the eastern portion of the states with the possibility of some isolated thunderstorms. a

so this is october through september the aggravateded sierra run off. more in the winter period, and less in the spring and summer by a bit. this is a recent flood. not a big one. but in may of 05, maybe some of you remember this event. it was raining up to about 9 thousand feet in,yosim ite park this is the valley and this is the storm that did it. a very warm and moist system. we had the valley flooded that the rain fall on average was just one inch but it was raining up to 9 thousand feet and above. frank back there has a bunch of snow collectors up there and his snow sensors were - rain was going through and to some extent it was melting but largely the story was we were getting more run off immediately and we got this sort of minor flood. you can imagine if this was a may system what if it was a february system where instead of two days of precipitation we had something like 1986 or 1987 flood where we had very high snow levels. that's what we're very concerned about and that leads us to the levy problem in california. next. the bay delta here. and

water from pristine area in the eastern sierra known as the owens valley and that's what feeds our aqua duct. we have been seeing summer runoff over the last 70 years showing a decreasing trend during the peak flow months which means although there are ups and downs in terms of the water supply, that during the times of highest need, the water yield is at its lowest, and going down. and this finding is consistent with what we've seen from the california department of water resources for the sacramento river and the san joaquin water heads as well. so we are certainly not alone in this regard. we are seeing of course the decline in the snow pack which others are going to talk about much more later today, but the suggestion that somehow the snow would be replaced by increasing water rainfall in southern areas has not yet emerged. and so picture really does not look great. we have our two largest and most important waste water treatment plants, the hipurian and (inaudible) they treat waste water and 11 other cities and water using agent sis throughout the la area. those plants are located
