parts of the center sierra, moving into the southern sierra right now and the rain is still around fresno. it's moving across parts of the central valley. now we are seeing our skies clearing and it is such a beautiful late morning head into the afternoon, but really cool out there. and we've also had some higher waves being churned up at ocean beach with all the clear skies and the gusty winds. it's going to be choppy out there at our beaches as well. i wanted to show you the picture at anderson reservoir, morgan hill. it is so dry. despite this morning's rain, it's going to stay pretty dry. the seven-day forecast is up at the bottom of the screen. much cooler temperatures over the next few days. and we've gotten used to temperatures that were actually well above normal. right now we're at 53 degrees across much of the bay area, with our high temperature reaching into the mid-50s today. a big cool down from the weather we've gotten used to. in walnut creek, we're looking at a high of 57 degrees. 53 degrees. san mateo, 54. 53 in the marina district and the north bay also at 56 in novato.

shepherds are increasingly leaving the sierras. martin solivellas: the problem began in the 1960's.y people moved away because working in tourism is easier. that's a problem. life up here is hard, and you don't earn as much money as elsewhere. reporter: when the shepherds leave, the sheep disappear. and when the sheep disappear, so do the vultures. evelyn tewes cares for injured vultures on mallorca. she created a foundation to protect the species. when the biologist from vienna came to the island 30 years ago, the vultures were in even worse straits. evelyn tewes: there were only about 19 birds, and just one breeding pair. some years it bred, in others it didn't. and if no protective measures had been taken, then these birds wouldn't be here anymore. reporter: but the black vulture isn't out of the woods yet. along with the lack of food, tourism is stressing the birds. evelyn tewes: increasing numbers of hikers are penetrating even the most remote areas. and that's a problem for these animals. reporter: a record 10 million vacationers visited mallorca last year. many visit the moun

winds are blowing through the delta, sierra nevada. y increase right before sunrise. you can see the wind profile, all out of the north. this offshore component will also work to dry out the atmosphere, bring down the relative humidity. from our roof camera you'll notice the very gusty winds here in san francisco. so as we look at live doppler 7, we had a system that moved through the sierra nevada. that brought just a little bit of snow. but behind it, that is what is allowing for the pressure gradients to tighten and the wind. but i wanted to show you this picture. this is of course a windy look at the mountains where they picked up about an inch and some gusty winds there as well. so in the city, it's 56. 54 in oakland. 54 in the coast with 48 in san jose. from emeryville right now, lots of sunshine. the air quality has improved. no spare the air alert today or tomorrow. the winds have taken care of that for us. cleaned out the atmosphere. but also drying it out significantly. 52 in concord. livermore in the 40s. and looking at the u

it is snowing in the sierra. if you are going that way, we talked about the need for chains and the seven day forecast coming up at the bottom of the screen. as the rain moves out, we will gradually dry out as the day goes along. looking at the rainfall totals, i want to show you the spots that have up to a half inch of rain. that was cool. mt. tam in the north bay, most of the valleys measured a few one-hundredths of an niche. a few spots reached a tenth inch like berkeley and livermore. san jose, almost a tenth inch. we were almost there. it's cold now. the temperatures mid to upper 40s. wear something nice and warm. now that this system is dipping to the south, we will have gusty winds and the snow will start to wind down for the see area around noon. we are going to have clear skies here as we go through the day. our high temperatures coming down way from what we have gotten used to. the mid to upper 50s today. getting dressed, you need a nice, warm coat to cut the wind and a hat to keep the hair in control. o
