(sheila) with over 4,000 clubs across the country, sioux city's location is 1 of 4 that is still only a boys club. the club is transitioning and will begin welcoming girls starting june 6th for their summer program. many programs across the country are gender neutral already but sioux city wants to include female specific programs to make the transition easier. organizers say that this is going to be a great step for the club as a whole. "there's just a lot of concrete downtown," said chris cowell, planner. downtown partners, the iowa initiative for sustainable communities, with the design help of students from the university of iowa want to spruce up downtown with a number of greenspaces. the spaces are meant to enhance the livability and sustainability for anyone downtown. and there are a number of suggestions to consider. the miracle league of sioux city looked to deliver a home run presentation to the sioux (sheila) the organization features an inclusive baseball l cility for people with disabilities. the miracle league came out swinging, explaining they plan to build a "splash pad" this summer, and the group would like the city to contribute financially. the splash pad would cost $197,000. they've raised around $70,000 for the project. the city council contributed more than $300,000 of the total $1.1 millioioraised for the first phase of the park. that includedethe concession area, restrooms, playground and the baseball field. board president kevin negaard says he appreciates the city's support and looks forward to the future. (sheila) the sioux city symphony orchestra performed its annual fourth grade concert at the orpheum theatre. the theme of the event was "the sioux city orchestra users' guide." "user's guide is essentially an introduction of the instruments in the orchestra to the students as well as an opportunity to hear how music can express many, many different emotions," said mark francis, executive director of the sioux city symphony orchestra. after learning about the instruments, students heard a story with the instruments. they also had the opportunity to sing along with the symphony to the "stars and stripes." one kid says that was his favorite part of the performance. "at the end when it says 'by our might and by our right,' our kids in our class whenever we would practice that at school, we'd get to do a little dance," said kennedy, a fourth- grader at leeds elementary in sioux city. again this year, the symphony orchestra participated in the league of american orchestra's "orchestras feed america." many of the students brough non-perishable food items to be donated to the food bank of siouxland

the sioux city parks and rec department held the first public input on a possible new campsite in sioux city. the campsite had two proposed locations: near the chautauqua ball park, or a location off of highway 12 near the railroad museum. those at last night's meeting leaned toward the railroad museum location. one frequent camper says a nice campground would attract campers from across the state.
