down to the south bay. put the radar on a sloloop, thas rainfall rate about 1 inch per hour coming down so hard. a lot of the streets had a hard time dealing with the drainage from those heavy rains. now most of it is moving off towards the hills. but what i want everybody to know in the south bay is there is another round on the quay. you can see it right here across the santa cruz mountains. this is producing about a half inch per hour. so we may run into more flooding issues as we head throughout the next 30 to 45 minutes. we'll likely see things pick up yet again in campbell by 11:32. san jose at 11:47. let's move it up further here through the peninsula. also looking at a heavy batch of rainfall here across highway 35, continuing into sunnyvale by 11:32 tonight. for the east bay, it has been busy through contra costa, alameda counties. mainly a moderate rain. but certainly lots of damage. and that's where we find nbc bay area cheryl hurd tonight in oakland, tracking all the damage. wild day, cheryl. >>

it will be over the south bay. d radar, the areas right around monterey, and even santa cruz, and it looks like some rain getting ready to move ashore. and that's where the moisture is expected to remain. central and southern california for today. and some high elevation snow expected over the sierra. but not much. and here in the bay area, we are going to be mostly cloudy and mainly dry. and the south bay, it will get the opportunity, with some rain. and it will be light but it will be there. and for the rest of us, we may squeeze out a few scattered showers. i have to put that in there. just because this system has just been fluctuating back and forth. and it would only have to come 30, 40 miles north and now we are all dealing with rain. right? giving you a view at the future cast though, stopping it for you tonight, and you can see all of that blue and the green, over southern california, and central california, and all the way into monterey, and maybe the south bay, for today. and sunday, it is going to be a dr

does show another line of showers pushing through at about 3:00 starting from the north bay all the way down through the south bay. anything north and even south of the golden gate bridge is expected to get some showers into tonight with the possibility of seeing a few isolated pop up thunderstorms. if you look by 7:00 look at the south bay area, pleasanton, the morgan hill area, santa cruz mountain area, very slick conditions. of course there goes that sierra snow. look at how much snow they are expecting, this is taking the timeline through saturday. a couple more inches in rain, up to 48 inches in kentwood and the chance for thunderstorm with the low snow levels will continue tonight and into the start of your weekend. >>> as you said much calmer than yesterday. the roads as the sun comes up the roads will get a chance to completely dry out. maybe slick on and off ramps. we also have the road weather index shows it's still wet coming past sfo and the east bay through say ward, north of 238 looks like it may have gotten dampened as well. the south bay no major problems. we had that earlier spinout reported

this is palo alto past ikea heading up into san francisco, towards the south bay. both sides very light as we show on the map. the radar lens also shows up as blue on the map. that's the road weather conditions. and we're looking at the rain having traveled across to the east bay and into the south bay as rob showed and puddling and ponding on either side. so far no closures for the freeways. we do have a couple of incidents that popped up where there was flooding in the oakland area. westbound 580 a crash just cleared at lake shore. now there's a new one. you saw the speed sensors slow around 880 right around broadway. another crash reported. possibly two in the area. both of them are on the center divide or the right shoulder from the cars involved. we'll track those reports from chp. to the bay bridge relatively smooth on the freeways. a quick look at the bay bridge shows you the backup is tough to see because you need the wipers. back to you. >> thank you, mike. 4:50 right now. in an exclusive nbc bay area investigation we uncover problems plaguing first respond

then as we head into friday afternoon, the north bay and again the south bay have the best chance of e of these showers. rainfall amounts are only going to be a couple hundredths of an inch in the south bay. in the east bay to tenth of an inch around the bay to quarter to a third of an inch in the north bay. many chances of rain, it's just not a lot of rain. the day will be dry saturday. it's the evening through sunday morning that will be wet. set those clocks forward and enjoy that hour next evening of sunlight. that extra hour. alexis? >> thanks, mike. finally, good news. we did just confirm with chp that our crash we never could see on our traffic cameras, westbound 80 within the bay bridge toll plaza has cleared. all lanes back open there. however, we possibly have a new problem around maritime westbound 80. within that backup. but it did sound like that one would clear fairly quickly. 3d check at that backup of traffic coming in from 580, 80 and 880 and yes, it is congested, but overall, it's not terrible. especially considering we had a crash there for 45 minutes. quick check h

be careful in the area but south city police say to use alternates. the rain all around the bayproblems for commuters in the south bay. let's get to alex savidge in san jose, there has been flooding and crashes and everything. >> we have all sorts of issues throughout the commute. good morning to you, we are next to san jose international and interstate 880. you can see there is slow traffic in the area. let me take you to this crash from early in the morning. this crash was northbound 101 just north of highway 87. it is a four car accident and one person had to be taken to the hospital with minor injuries so thankfully it was not too serious but a chp in the area have been running from call to call. a lot of single car crashes. people spinning out on the wet roadways and obviously a lot of people going too fast for the conditions that we have seen. the rain obviously much heavier earlier in the morning and we have issues with flooding or at least there was during the early morning. the connector from northbound to 80 to highway 87 had nearly 1 foot of water and that was a major

the rest of the bay, south bay up to the city a lighter build, in san francisco the traffic is an optionu on the roadways, but over here north of japantown at goff and bush we will send it over to pete suratos, a big crash we have talked about. that's a serious situation out there. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, mike. look, we are right here on goff and bush. this is why there is a traffic issue. this is where this multi-car accident took place and i spoke to san francisco fire not too long ago, they're saying there were three cars all together but there's two cars, the two you are looking at right now are where you're seeing the most damage. five people all together were affected by this and they have been taken to a hospital for their injuries. three people were extricated from one of these cars. now, i did talk to a resident once we got on scene who said he heard a loud noise, didn't know what was going on at the time. here is what he said he saw when he came out. >> just my reaction was how loud it was. i feel like someone ran a red light, but i have no idea. just because it

as we made our way from the south bay to the summit, the roadways were pretty sloppy. a lot sloppier than what our editor says. she was coming from ben lomans down to the south bay, a few sprinkles this morning. it's full-on rain and haze. it's windy. if you were driving in the daylight you would have noticed netting at vine hill road one of the repairs on highway 17 caltrans made. they've been working on that since last year when we got walloped. while the mud slides and rock slides shut down highway 17 for two weeks last year nearly a year ago, that happened nearly a year ago and is far from a distant memory. a lot of folks still talking about it as they commute to and from the santa cruz mountains whether it be home to work, vice versa, or just heading into the mountains for fun. it is very cold out here. the rain is coming down sideways. you'll have to use your windshield wipers pretty much on the max if you're on highway 17. look for ponding on the roadway. if you drive highway 17 for fun or business, you know that it is very dark out here. you may not see a puddle
