the southeast utilities commission was located here and was established in 1987 with the southeast community facility was built as a measure in return for the bayview unemployment community's acceptance for the southeast water treatment plant in the middle of our neighborhood. additionally and in order to contain -- obtain approval, the city agreed to operate and maintain at city cost the facility for the benefit of the community. members of the commission served at the pleasure of the man and are facing the purpose to review and provide guidance regarding operations of cells of these facilities and other facilities under its jurisdiction. the yearly goal is to continue to promote, advocate, and improve the physical, health, public safety, and welfare of the hunters point community canfor all residents of san francisco. i thought maybe you needed to hear that so that you understood what our mission was here in the southeast part of this community. so, thank you so much again for coming. many of you here are from the community the day and you can hopefully have a say in what you hear here today. do no

whether it is the southeast waste water treatment facility, or the work happening in alameda, there's a lot of areas we are having an impact. the last two principles -- leveraging and developing partnerships with other city agencies. we've been in conversation with efforts in district 10 around the mayor's office of housing, or the redevelopment agency, to look for opportunities to put arts enrichment dollars in place with city agencies. lastly, making sure the art is accessible to people with disabilities. that has been coming up with folks we have been talking to. historically, the arts enrichment dollars have been administered through the arts commission in the public art program. moving forward, we've been in conversation with them around identifying the resources to go to the community arts and education program. it would allow us to go deeper into districts to support local artist and have a greater impact in particular neighborhoods. we have been in those conversations trying to get a sense of how we can better access that program while still supporting the public arts program.

in the southeast part of the city, we don't have many homeless facilities. there is one that i know of, providence baptist church. every night, i have seen this line wrapped around the corner. it is cold. this is a men's shelter in particular. they're coming in, they are on a floor of a gymnasium. we are not talking a lavish existence. four seasons here. definitely, i think we are a very compassionate city and just continue to extend the compassion to the homeless community. >> what is happening with crime in your district? how do you think the police department is doing to address the issue of crime in district 10? >> statistically, we have a lot of crime. homicides, there were two in the last week in my district. i am vice-chair of the public safety committee. safety and how we define safety, not just in terms of crime, but over a public safety, is something that is very important and one of my priorities. what i would like to see is more of a community policing approach. maybe engaging more the community. that includes organizations like safe, which is a
