the team almost traded away joe montana less than a year before he won super bowl 1984. a documentary from espn films looking at the 1983 draft featuring that man, john elway. the documentary talks to elway's agent who says he had a discussion with the niners head coach, bill walsh. walsh apparently said he was interested in possibly trading for elway straight up for montana. elway and walsh did have a history. walsh recruited elway to play for him at stanford. but the trade never happened. and number 16, joe cool, went on to win a cool three more super bowls for the 49ers. after he heard this news, kind of funny here, montana tweeted, can't wait to watch that 30 for 30 when i get home. heard i was almost traded for elway. >>> the 49ers are hosting their own draft bash in downtown san jose tonight. the first round starts at 5:00. to celebrate, the team and bud light will host an outdoor block party in san pedro square. the free event will feature food, music and entertainment as well as special appearances by some 49er players and alumni. sour dough sam and the gold rush
