later in the agenda a presentation about the san francisco transportation plan, which is actually the long-range vision for transportation investment by the authority here in the city and county of san francisco. that plan is mandated by state law and its purpose is to really figure out what the transportation needs for the city long-term are. and, so, i think it's important for us to begin the discussion of what those needs are, what the future looks like, and what the challenges in meeting the needs that the city has and will have, what those challenges will be. we need to think about this issue and specifically focus on ways in which we can bring revenue into the system, the kinds of investments that need to be made not only by the county transportation authority, but other agencies like the san francisco mta. i look forward to a substantive discussion. and again, this is the beginning of this discussion and we know that we will have additional discussions that will take place. i also want to note that because of the good work of our staff at the authority, we recently received some money on the planning front. we actually received half a millio

these different parcels and the cost to do the transportation projects and the ancillary projects that were listed in that resolution. when the transportation authority looked at this earlier, they were looking at money going back to the agency and thought that was money going to affordable housing instead of for transportation purposes. but really what it was was that we were looking at what the purchase price the agency was going to pay. and at that point from early estimations we could tell that the purchase price was going to be the lower amount. it wasn't going to be 17-1/2 million, but approximately am around million. the shortfall was going to be a little bit less. the money was not going to be given to the agency and now mo, affordable housing. in essence the amount they overpaid up front as we were wait tog figure out what the purchase price would be, they agreed they would pay the higher amount and wait i'd the end of the day and see if that was ing to be the lower amount for the purchase. >> then it would be a true up? >> yes, that would be a true up at the end of the day. they would look at the difference between all the proceeds coming i

today the transportation authority we had discussion about shuttle buses and in the city we're see ang increase of the use of shuttle buses both within san francisco and those that commute to outside of san francisco. the shuttle buses clearly provide a real benefit around decreasing the amount of trips that are taken by automobiles. often people who choose to go on shuttles, if they didn't have a shuttle as an option would be in a car driving by themselves. so we know there is really great benefits to the shuttle system. we know we're seeing a proliferation of them and we don't quite have a handle in the city how to manage our shuttle -- the private shuttle fleets in the city, especially as they relate to public space that we have around muni stops. so rather than not look at how we can prevent the wild west of the shuttles to become what is happening in san francisco, it's best that we look at how we can manage that. today i am requesting the city attorney to help us draft a permit process to regulate shuttles in san francisco and colleagues, i would be very interested in having inpu
