transportation. we have two of them here tonight, the san francisco municipal transportation agency or affectionately known at m.t.a., and the san francisco county transportation authority, affectionately known at c.t.a., and they are the ones taking and moving the needing, and we are encouraging them, and lucky to brainstorm with them. i'm very impressed with the work those entities do, and i'm proud to call them partners. so tonight you're going to hear three presentations to offer sort of a snapshot of this 80 goal. the first presentation, we'll be looking at what the department of the environment is doing, specifically our outreach efforts. then we'll hear from the m.t.a., what the city is doing in their own programs, and finally admitting that transportation is ultimately a regional challenge. we will hear from the county transportation authority, the c.t.a. so we believe that it's critical to start young. this is not an unusual strategy for the department of the environment. we have a very robust school education program, as you know, on zero waste, and simile, we think about transportation from that same lens. we need to encourage families to walk and bike, take

we provided a letter of support just recently to the contra costa transportation authority for an application for federal transportation management, technologies, grant funds. the grant award would support the region alamos platform with initial deployment in contra costa. let's move on to water transportation, which is a major potential benefit here for the island. and that we as staff are starting it focus on. at its march 1, 2018, meeting, we authorized staff to proceed with an exploratory study of smaller vessel explorations. they would look at the cleaner vessels delivered relatively quickly for initial service for locations such as treasure island. from our perspective, treasure island is probably one of the optimum locations to have a pilot in that regard. if you have had the opportunity to move back and forth between treasure island and the ferry building, it's only about a 10- to 12-minute run, so we think there's a lot of opportunity here. the study will be overseen by a committee of the board comprised of directors. we're working actively with a scope of work that includes treasure

we're building on the planning efforts completed by the planning department, the transportation authority, and our own group how we're pivoting to the next step for projects. we don't just build something, we hope there's been a strong planning effort prior. we're working both end quarter levels s levels and in areas. so currently we have a community based transportation plan starting in the bayview to hear more from that community in terms of what they're interested in seeing in terms of safety mobility and all improvements. and as we do install legislate long-term quarter projects, our goal is to immediately put in safety projects commendsurrate. the real goal about vision zero is to think synergistically how we have all those other goals. how do we address vulnerable populations in particular. are we ensuring we have work at the citywide level, are we being responsive to the kind of constituent requests that we're hearing? for instance, resiliency is something that's now really important, as we see the effects of climate change, so how are we thinking about safety and making our street
