amber crabb with the transportation authority. we did request or flag that we would be bringing this to you for approval upon first action. due to the desire to have on record a position before the end of september, which due to the august recess would otherwise be the case. this bill would repeal the transportation revenue approved through the road repair and accountability act or senate bill one approved last year that brings about $5 billion across the state for transportation each year. san francisco alone sees about $60 million per year in local formula programs that are used for thing like local street and road repair, transit improvements and transit service. we also are going to be relying on hundreds of millions of dollars in the future for key infrastructure projects such as bart and muni vehicles as well as safety bike and ped projects. if the proposition repealed, there's potential for those projects all to slow and the need for locals to find additional funding to close the funding. gaps that would be remaining. we hav

transportation. we have two of them here tonight, the san francisco municipal transportation agency or affectionately known at m.t.a., and the san francisco county transportation authority, affectionately known at c.t.a., and they are the ones taking and moving the needing, and we are encouraging them, and lucky to brainstorm with them. i'm very impressed with the work those entities do, and i'm proud to call them partners. so tonight you're going to hear three presentations to offer sort of a snapshot of this 80 goal. the first presentation, we'll be looking at what the department of the environment is doing, specifically our outreach efforts. then we'll hear from the m.t.a., what the city is doing in their own programs, and finally admitting that transportation is ultimately a regional challenge. we will hear from the county transportation authority, the c.t.a. so we believe that it's critical to start young. this is not an unusual strategy for the department of the environment. we have a very robust school education program, as you know, on zero waste, and simile, we think about transportation from that same lens. we need to encourage families to walk and bike, take

can draft a resolution for presentation to the board of supervisors requiring that the county transportation authority staff to include -- excuse me, i didn't complete this -- in its budget construction mitigation funding. and the reason i have that in there is in support of supervisors is the governing body to the sfmta. if the mayor executed an executive directive as to whether the transportation authority's mandated to follow that executive directive or takes it as an optional, so just to ensure that there's -- we're dealing with it on both sides. so i -- so i -- i -- i guess we can either go down bullet point by bullet point, and if there are ideas of which you think the office and the commission can take to deal with each item that's listed in the executive summary, we can do that. if you want to take public comment to hear some direction, we can do that, as well. >> yeah. i'll defer to the other commissioners. i don't know that it's necessary to go line item by line item if we just document ought to the public right now, assuming we have all reviewed this, and we might want to make some recommen

we provided a letter of support just recently to the contra costa transportation authority for an application for federal transportation management, technologies, grant funds. the grant award would support the region alamos platform with initial deployment in contra costa. let's move on to water transportation, which is a major potential benefit here for the island. and that we as staff are starting it focus on. at its march 1, 2018, meeting, we authorized staff to proceed with an exploratory study of smaller vessel explorations. they would look at the cleaner vessels delivered relatively quickly for initial service for locations such as treasure island. from our perspective, treasure island is probably one of the optimum locations to have a pilot in that regard. if you have had the opportunity to move back and forth between treasure island and the ferry building, it's only about a 10- to 12-minute run, so we think there's a lot of opportunity here. the study will be overseen by a committee of the board comprised of directors. we're working actively with a scope of work that includes treasure

. >> reporter: the transportation authority solution is a stop light, in this case, a pedestrian beacon that only prompts vehicles when a pedestrian activates the signal. but many people have signed a petition to stop construction on the traffic light. instead, they think a pedestrian underpass is the safest solution. >> i think a tunnel is a great idea. even a bridge. i think stoplights -- it is hard for drivers because it is two blind turns. they don't want to stop. >> it seems like a nice idea but i don't know how expensive it is. >> reporter: this time lapse of the crossing shows just how dangerous it is to cross the highway. while the project is still in the design phase officials anticipate being ready for construction by the middle of next year. here at the crossing drivers are turning the curve out here going at least 50 miles per hour. everyone we spoke to said something needs to be done to make it safer for them to cross the highway. >>> if you plan to travel out of san jose. the airport has removed hundreds of parking stalls. it has reduced lots five and 6 by a total of 500 p

utilities commission, the san francisco m.t.a., the san francisco planning department, the county transportation authority, and when i was on the board and the county transportation authority, i hope to leave the efforts to secure the additional funding we needed to get this project on. i want to thank the san francisco arts commission and so many that have made it possible. this project, overall, improves public safety, creates new open space for our community, and strengthens our infrastructure for years to come. when i was supervisor, high, michael, one of the leaders who basically helped move this project forward, thank you so much for being here and your advocacy of getting this project done. when i was on the board of supervisors, one of the persons in my office to help deal with many of those complaints and challenges from the folks who lived here and work here was, at the time, my legislative aide, vallie brown. she is now the supervisor to represent this district. ladies and gentlemen, district five supervisor, vallie brown. we're building on the planning efforts completed by the planning department, the transportation authority, and our own group how we're pivoting to the next step for projects. we don't just build something, we hope there's been a strong planning effort prior. we're working both end quarter levels s levels and in areas. so currently we have a community based transportation plan starting in the bayview to hear more from that community in terms of what they're interested in seeing in terms of safety mobility and all improvements. and as we do install legislate long-term quarter projects, our goal is to immediately put in safety projects commendsurrate. the real goal about vision zero is to think synergistically how we have all those other goals. how do we address vulnerable populations in particular. are we ensuring we have work at the citywide level, are we being responsive to the kind of constituent requests that we're hearing? for instance, resiliency is something that's now really important, as we see the effects of climate change, so how are we thinking about safety and making our street
