they have a deal worked out in 2009 in bankruptcy for the uaw trust that holds 40 percent of chrysler to sell their incremental shares back to fiat. well, now that the company is doing so well, as you report, the uaw says, we think it's worth more than we agreed to back in 2009, and that could force them to launch an ipo for their stake. here is what he said. he's angry at the union, has filed suit against them and here's what he told us today. >> in 2009 outlining how the thing ought to be calculated. it's a formula. i have better things to do with my time. let the judge determined what the proper interpretation is. >> reporter: and so, the judge now has the suit before him and will decide how much the uaw stake is worth and how much feel it would have to pay for it, but if they cannot reach an agreement it is possible the uaw could force chrysler to launch an ipo for its stake. you and i could invest potentially in chrysler, as you point out it looks like a pretty good investment. liz: i have faith in that guy. he has to an impressive things. he has done nothing but grow that compan

of them but the majority were not walart workers but members of other unions like the teamsters, the uaw, it was built today as a demonstration against the notion of working on thursday on thanksgiving. the day before black friday. but the protest when it came do to it wasn't so much about that. was against walmart's practice of paying minimum-wage, not giving workers enough money in their view and about work rules. that is what the actual protests came down to. it was organized by organization called our walmart, the shadow union for the non-union walmart and well-organized by united food and commercial workers union which is trying to organize at wal-mart. take a look at what the company has to say, speaking for walmart was vice president who said best black friday ever and our walmart organization was unable to recruit a small number of associates to participate in these made-for-tv events. i covered it out there today and if it was made for tv it was made particularly well. we stood out in the freezing cold and they dn't enter the store but stood outside a while. gerri: was just you

many were workers that went to the protest, and how many were about vieses or members of unions like the uawmsters and the rest. according to walmart, we estimate less than 50 # associates participated in the protest nationwide. roughly the name number of associates missed their shift as last year according to the u.s. president and ceo of wal-mart. one pointed out there's likely more people online at most wal-mart stores now than participated in the protest, but here in chicago, about 200 people, as i said, a lot of members of other unions, including the united food and commercial union seeking to unionize wal-mart. a lot of people that work at wal-mart, not thrilled with the working conditions or the pay they are making, not a lot of them say they want to join a union. they would just like management to hear their pleas, and, perhaps, do a better job of paying them or having more fair work conditions, but not everyone is sold on the notions of joining a union. it's interesting. as you see here on the south side of chicago, the protests evaporated, and it's just us left in the cold. oh, so

because you know how to negotiate as a member of the uaw and been around bargaining table, what advice would you give members of congress and the president to avoid going over the fiscal cliff. >> first of all, you can't negotiate in the media. we learned that a long time ago. if you create expectations you can't deliver or if you put barriers up you can't get over you will just never get done. there is enough on this table. there is truly enough on this table where everybody can get a small piece of this pie. everybody will suffer if we go over the cliff. nobody will avoid it and there is enough legislation if we honestly sit down and talk we can get there. >> we will get there. if would be nice -- it would be nice to happen while you are still there. let me ask you a labor issue hot today and everybody is talking about how the maker of twimpgies and wonder bread is shutting down. do you think that situation could have is been avoided? >> you hate to talk about a situation you are not personally involved in. we were in session most of the day and i only got bits and pieces about what

after the gym bankruptcy process was complete, the uaw retirees had their full health care and pensions, where as myself and othe lost all of our health care and our life insurance and had pension reductions up to 70%. neil: so it is actually a joke because it's pennies on the dollar in the end? what did you do, did you ave any recourse? >> that is correct. both pension plans were terminated. yet, the auto task force got involved in a court raft a very fast gym bankruptcy. it was excavated in 44 days. we think that the political connections are basically helping them get their full pension plan. we are glad that they haven't. they were bored and they deserve it. but what we don't understand is how we work side-by-side with the union in the same plant in andentical situation. we are decidedly different by obama's auto task force. neil: how does it explain the other time, the union guys mattered more than the salary guys are how do you explain that? >> did you hear me? i think we lost him. okay. apparently a union in charge of that particular video hookup. no, i'm kidding. i reject that.
