the day we've been seeing this. hundreds of students. more than a thousand students at berkeley high marching toward uc berkeley all part of this protest. this is all unfolding at berkeley high school. that message from the student was threatened black students and actually referred to the kkk. that prompted this protest which had the support, actually, of the berkeley high school principal. nbc bay area's jodi hernandez joins us in berkeley. jodi, what do we know about the student? we just learned this within the last 60 minutes. >> reporter: raj, the school isn't telling us much about the student but do say after a careful forensic andalysis used of the computer used to post the hateful message they were able to identify the person they thought was possible and earlier today they said the student admitted it. >> black lives -- >> matter! >> reporter: hundreds of berkeley high school students walked out of class this morning and marched through the streets of berkeley. after somebody posted a racist message on a school library computer yesterday. the hateful post promised a public lynching on december 9th. >> as a black woman i feel tar

being assessed this morning after thousands of partiers took to the streets on halloween near the uc berkeley campus. these images sent to us by our viewers showed the crowd filling the street near channing way and piedmo piedmont. berkeley police were called to the area after hearing reports of guns and knives being used in a fight. an officers say the crowd disbursed peacefully but some neighbors say police didn't do enough. >> it's probably the night of the year where we needed their protection most they weren't here. >> some people might characterize this as a riot. i want to make that distinction there was no unlawful assembly declared. >> police say they are still getting reports of broken windshields and other damage in that area. and we can tell you that one person was taken to the hospital after being kicked in the head. three people were arrested. >>> up next at 11:00, forget singing a bedtime lullaby, many are coaxing the tablet to put kids to sleep. >>> and a big slip for an institution in silicon valley. and the question, what will become of hp? >>> the rain is tapering off for m

berkeley got out of control. thousands filled the streets near the uc berkeley campus. take a look at the damage left behind. streets filled with damaged vehicles and empty liquor bottles and cans. three people were arrest. one was taken to the hospital after a fight broke out near channing way and piedmont avenue. the police rushed to that area early yesterday morning. they found about 5,000 people milling in the streets. police are telling us the crowd was a combination of party goers and football fans. the police kept an eye on the crowd until they eventually left that area. >>> 7:39. tomorrow is election day. in san francisco, one of the most controversial ballot measures is aimed at preserving the mission district. supporters gathered at the church for a town hall meeting yesterday. the measure would impose 18 month moratorium for new market rate housing projects in the mission. supporters say if it doesn't pass, evictions will continue and the mission will lose diversity. >> the mission by 2025 would lose 20% of latino population. basically people making less than $100,000 a year. >> opponents say more

the march at uc-berkeley is set to begin at 2 p.m. at sproul plaza. other other locations are uc- santa cruz and uc-davis. >>> teen suicide in palo alto is five times the national average and now the cdc is stepping in. kpix 5's keit do finds out what they are doing to save young lives. >> reporter: we are here at the santa clara count department of public health and this agency officially invited the cdc to come here with this investigation. now, the palo alto unified school district had been trying for years to prevent teen suicides with no success. the superintendent even going as far as calling suicide a contagion saying that one spurs another and another and so on. there have been several so- called suicide clusters over the years. last year, four students from palo alto high school took their own lives within six months. another suicide cluster back in 2009 happened when four students from gunn high school killed themselves also within six months. palo alto suicide rate is up to five times the national average. paige parsons took her daughter out
