you can't see it from the train, but the matter valley is the deepest valley in the alps. it surrounded by $33.00 mountains, that rise up to heights of 3900 meters above sea level. a short way up the slopes. there's plenty of tranquillity to be found in another picturesque swiss village. toby is at an elevation of 1500 meters. tourists are rare here. ah. our train ride takes us further through the matter valley. we're just about 10 kilometers from summit. mm hm. the landscape becomes spectacular again. and the matter of ispa shows tourists, it's wild side near ronda. there were devastating rock slides in 1991, which also damaged the glacier express railway. it's estimated that mass is a rubble with a volume 13 times that of the great pyramid of gisele slid into the valley, burying among other things, the rail line, which was then rebuilt in another place. some say worsening global warming is posing a growing threat to the railway as well. a problem that isn't exclusive to the alps . one thing that shouldn't be missed on a trip is especially port grappa. wow. that i no long

the numbers in the north bay valleys are going to be more like the inland valleys of the east bay.anta rosa will be freezing. as far as daytime highs go, this was yesterday. 72, broke a record for the daytime high yesterday. now watch the drop on that arcing orange line. by the time we get to tuesday and wednesday, we are in the mid 50s for daytime highs. there is the main headline, much colder. let's talk about the possibility for rain here. daytime highs go to the mid to low 60s. this is 10 degrees colder than we were. watch the brees pickup as we get into the afternoon as well. so, now we know how today is different, 10 degrees cooler, if you high clouds, a breeze by the afternoon. this will make it feel colder even than the 10 degrees drop on the thermometer. there is the system responsible. you can see the rain diving sell. it gets here through tuesday. let's look closer at that. watch tuesday now. there is some rain here. most of it stays off the coast. most of it is focused primarily on the first half of the day. most of us do not get anything. but, it is to close for comfor

i mean cleveland was the silicon valley of a time in the 20th century as was detroit. they don't want just all these silicon valley billionaires making money and having some handout they want to participate with pride in the economic production of the 21st century and i think providing a roadmap to doing that and providing a roadmap for people in different parts of the country to work with folks on the coast may help reduce some of the bitterness some of the division that's plaguing our democracy and really that is the the motivating factor for writing the book is how do we have technology in the service of democratic ideals as opposed to divorced from democratic ideals? an interestingly it does involve the government. really steering the ship and move in. and forcing a little bit of redistribution. it's an an interesting and it reminds me a little bit of the space race, you know, we got all mobilized to beat the russians into space and that did spur the last big sort of government spending on research i think in science and technology, so you're kind of proposing a sim

it is cold and some of the inland valleys. we are still hanging on to some mid-30s in the north bay and upper 30s for the inland valleys. daytime highs climb into the 70s for the south bay. in the upper 60s along much of the peninsula. along 70 for much of the shoreline. inland valleys, in the lower 70s as well. we have not noticed any change from the past couple of days. when things change, early this week, tuesday, wednesday, thursday. not only is there a small chance of rain, but perhaps the bigger impact will be the noticeable drop in temperatures. if we use those numbers, san jose, taking a look at that on the forecast ties, we would be around the low 70s. look how the numbers drop off toward the middle of this week. we will be back at the mid-50s by tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. that is from this system right here. watch the development off the coast. that rain does not quite hold together in time to get here. it falls apart, but we have the chance for at least 1/100 of an inch of rain. maybe a couple hundred seven in

look at the valleys and the day filling with clouds. in the central valley there is a patch for the heart of the bay. we might get some patchy fog out of that. a little extra time maybe if you are an early riser on the roads on sunday. this is where the temperatures will be for that. low to mid 40s, it will be 35 for santa rosa, 37 into concord. tomorrow is actually going to be a few degrees warmer than today. we kind of start this warm-up tomorrow actually. this is not the big job i really wanted to spotlight. but tomorrow is about 4 to 5 degrees warmer than today. you might notice that. as we look ahead in the remainder of the seven-day forecast, take a look at the bottom line for san jose. that is where you are going to see this the most. already a 68 tomorrow. and then 76 by the time we get to thursday. about 10 degrees above where we were today. oakland, you will go to the low 70s. san francisco will go to 70. so it is not going to be too terribly noticeable for the locations under the influence of the bay. but certainly the north

and then our highs during the afternoon tomorrow, now mostly 70s around the santa clara valley, the tri-valley and north bay. check out santa rosa up to 78 degrees. downslope warming due to those offshore breezes will likely mean the north bay valleys will warm up the most tomorrow. and for the hills above 2,000 feet, dry and breezy conditions at times. wind speeds not expected to be too strong. we're probably not goto see much in the lower elevations but elevations above 2,000 feet, freezing conditions at times. in terms of clouds, that's the patchy fog and more hazy sunshine heading into the afternoon and more of this trend will continue as we move you forward through the week. notice the high pressure is keeping the rain off to the north and speaking of that ridge of high pressure, it's about to get even stronger. i think you're really going to notice the change wednesday through friday as we get towards thursday now, this is probably our best bet for breaking some records around the bay area. you only have to be mid to upper 70s this time of year to do that. by thursday, santa rosa could b

we will do mid-60s for the inland valleys. the east bay will be in the upper 60s for much of the day. today is going to be nicer than yesterday was to be outside. there will be less clouds and it will be warmer. here is the real headline in the forecast. look at the seven day leaving off. look 10 days from now. the deeper the shades of red on the map show you the higher the degree of confidence temperatures will be above average. that is a strong signal as we go past the seven day. temperatures are going to be staying above average. we already know that we will be doing that the seven-day forecast. look at that number on thursday. 77 for san jose. that could tiorbrres ti get to of next week. oakland goes up to the mid-70s. we will be in the low 70s for the city. did you see that 73 degree day in february for san francisco? that is another sign there. this is when you start getting up into the low to mid 70s. we are doing it everywhere. there is the east bay. look at the middle line showing you the n■orthbay alleys. it is 79 by

for the northbay valleys, the east bay valleys, the densely populated did parts of the bay area that have been under this advisory, off the board already at 9:00 this evening and the wind will relax before then. the wind out of the north, 15 to 25 miles per hour for the strongest sustained wind, gust still potentially up to 40 miles per hour, we are mostly talking about 30 to 35 mile per hour gusts. still some possibility of downed trees and power outages over the next few hours before we are out of the woods. in terms of our fire danger index, we topped out about halfway up our 0 to 10 scale this afternoon, which is elevated for this time of year. in january and february, we really shouldn't see these numbers above two or three, but now that the wind is dying down and temperatures will drop off tonight, those numbers are really going to fall off as we had through the early morning hours on thursday and even warming into the low to mid 60s, the highest values we will see our around a one or two. a much better perspective on the fire weather conditions as we head into the rest of the
