in general this is the diablo valley. let's use the virtual map for a second. when we plot how the air is getting loose, we will go with the virtual amount now. when we plot how the air is moving through the bay and you can see the streamlines on here. the top of the newscast, we saw how a lot of the smoke was getting corralled in the santa clara valley as you can see how the winds are moving down there and it will just pool up there. we have a similar bowl over here. it is a very subtle northerly breeze now where you could see it in the streamlines there where you could see it at my feet and over here perhaps for concord and diablo. so really a lot of how the air quality is for your part of the bay, they will have to do with two things. how close are you to the fire? but what is the wind doing through the bay? and what we are waiting for is a strong return of onshore winds, and that's coming tomorrow. so the good news is tomorrow the air quality is going to be much better. there is a big improvement coming our way. and we will see that when we get into the big

so advisory for heat in the interior valleys across much of california. the san joaquin valley all the way down los angeles and san diego, as well as we're going to see those hot temperatures settling in. but the bay area and get to the north bay and get to the napa area get toward the east bay. alameda county contra costa county, even santa clara county. we'll see some hot temperatures. 90's, maybe near triple digits in the afternoon on saturday. that will be the hottest day of the weekend. probably the hottest day in the next 10 days. but out there right now, we do have that nice fog that has settled overnight tonight. maybe even more drizzle out along the coastline early tomorrow morning. seeing cloud deck search all the way into the central valley, then pulled back toward the coastline. that is a summer pattern developing in the bay area. and then the temperatures, of course, going to stay cool. coast side are going to see that fog out there. only about 58 degrees in the sun sets. 64 the bay, though. some nice temperatures to be had 70 degrees in foste

and in the central valley we have the extreme heat warning.o lots of heat in the area, a little cooler along the coast. as you saw in our earlier story. temperatures on the coast tomorrow will be back in the upper 60s, low 70s. and then after that, as we get into thursday, the fog will come back and we'll start to moderate those temperatures downward. but in the meantime, san francisco's fog free temperature in san francisco right now. mid 60s, upper 60s. so it's pretty mild a warm night. we've got inland temperatures that are still in the 80. we've got red areas representing extreme heat warning that's in effect through thursday. and then the yellow area right here represents the heat advisory which has been extended into the santa cruz mountains. the coverage of that area. so we've got, you know, got the high fire danger. we've got air quality that's not so great. we've got concerns along the coast with rip currents, mainly because you're dealing with folks going to the beach tomorrow because it's so hot. urban center, san francisco, million

it's going to be another day of heat advisories and excessive heat warning in the central valley. these were the highs from today. we have a record in santa rosa. will come in close on it so you can see the numbers. but pretty impressive for this time of year. that's why you got a record in santa rosa. the valley's hot as well as we talked about sacramento in those areas where there's an excessive heat warning stays, all of these advisories stay in effect essentially through thursday night. and then they they get dropped. but not until then. the bay area will cool pretty significantly on thursday. but the heat advisory will remain in effect for some current temperatures. these are the temperature changes i threw these in. just so you can see, these aren't the temperatures in fahrenheit. this is the difference. it's 24 degrees warmer in napa than it was last night. at this time, 22 degrees warmer in livermore. so significant warming took place today. the grasses are dry. the fire danger is up. the air quality is not horrible, but not great. the rip currents and the ocean swells are

bay both the areas around the diablo valley like concord and clayton and the walnut creek and the tri-valley applies to all of you. right around 100 for the next two days and then the heat wave breaks. thursday friday and the numbers come down. and you will be in the mid 80s by the weekend we'll get a little bit of a break. but if we do the bay here it doesn't work for us to just broad brush the bay in general. i want to pull out three specifically that i think are very good representatives. let's do the santa clara valley first. so san jose, santa clara, cupertino. los gatos. these are the numbers. low 90s for the next two days. this is different than inland valleys or the bay and you can see the cooldown here in the middle of the week. one more microclimate in here. redwood city you are going to be the representative for the peninsula. and the east bay shore for alameda county. those numbers are mid- to upper 80s for the next few days and cooling down to the mid 70s in the last one we'll show you is oakland. just to show you the influence that an on shore breeze can have. all right, reed.

will be in the 60s there along the coastline while the valleys are still hot. the changes that we're seeing this morning, the return of the low clouds and fog, you can kind of see it trying to make its return to the golden gate bridge, and that's what helps cool us down. not only for the coastline, but that wind coming off of that coastal fog cools us off in the valleys as well. so we're right now seeing already a wide range of temperatures. we're in the low 50s in san francisco. but as you step out the door, martinez, you're like, oh, it's still kind of warm. it's in the upper 60s, right now. we're going to see highs in the upper 80s for the south bay. after seeing those 90s yesterday, this will be a little bit better in morgan hill, 92 or 91 today after hitting a high of 100 yesterday and we saw triple digits for parts of the inland east bay today. it's in the low 90s, so we're making some progress here. it will be in the upper 70s for hayward and then for palo alto 85 compared to the 66 and half moon bay, san francisco in the upper 60s, low 70s, downtown, 71

's something that may break the heat for the inland areas. we're going to see a surge of moisture coming in from the mid-levels of the atmosphere. it's caused a few lightning strikes just off the coast around la, and that will be heading northward into the bay area later on. this evening. so we're just going to see an increase in a few more clouds as we go into the afternoon. into the evening, we can see the clouds kind of lifting northward. that's that moisture that we'll see, and the possibility that we could see some lightning strikes with that very humid air. what happens is when we get thunderstorms, dry air feeds into that, and you get a lightning strike that can come out of that. but then the dry air evaporates. the rain. so you may hear some claps of thunder. you may see some lightning. the lightning reaches the ground, but the rain does not. and that could start some fires here all across the region, especially just to our south. so we're watching out for that this evening and

fire concerns are elevated. >> in the central valley, especially the sacramento valley. onight. we'll talk about the details coming up in weather. >> all right, taking a live look outside from our mount tam camera. you see the city of san francisco on the right hand side of your screen. there. kathy, what kind of weather can folks expect out there and across the bay today? well, it's beautiful. there's no doubt about that. and compared to yesterday's june gloom, we have clear skies, many places across the bay area. yeah. a few areas of low clouds at the coastline. but overall, it's beautiful. take a look anywhere. you look >> from quite tower. the east bay hills to san jose, half moon bay temple, pius, it's great one of the big concerns, though, aren't gusty winds even at this early morning hour, some areas are reporting numbers well into the 20's. 23 mile per hour winds right now through the san francisco half moon bay. 29 20 in petaluma. 27 in santa rosa. this raises concerns for fire danger and even more so as the day wears on because the winds strengthen 2.37 miles pe

those were northeasterly winds coming from the sights valley fire on the west end of the sacramento valley. here's the best way to get a handle on that. this is right before sunset. there go the clouds. as they leave they're much higher, that's why they're moving in a different direction. as soon as they left, this huge plume of smoke moved in, and the way the winds were oriented, it directed it right over us. no doubt you saw this. anybody who looked at the sky between 7:00 and sunset no doubt was wondering, what is that? is that the point fire? and it wasn't. what did it do to air quality? if we go to that network of low-cost air quality centers which have a big array, there's a ton of them across the bay, so you get a big picture view, wrote do see one area that has poor air quality. a little bit up in sonoma county. look at napa and fairfield. see that congregation of poor air, that smoke is coming from the point fire. that had gotten fulled into napa valley at the lower elevations and has drifted to fairfield. that's the only place that has bad air quality right now. it all comes back

not as hot as even parts of the santa clara valley or east bay. off in the middle portion of the 80s. temperatures peak on saturday. not likely to set new record high temperatures, compare in the forecast highs for saturday to where the records stand and will be way, way away from the records in san francisco and oakland. even some of the hotter spots will be anywhere from 7-10 degrees below the daily records on saturday. livermore will hit 100 degrees, the record is 110. could be a lot worse here in late june. once the temperatures return to near average on sunday that is where they will stay. 6-10 day outlook takes us through the end of june. hot weather to the east. taking us to the fourth of july. a weak signal towards warmer weather making a return to the bay area. we will keep you updated but it is a couple weeks off. one hot day on saturday. one really hot day on saturday. inland parts of the bay area, middle to upper 80s. it is warm, reasonably warm for late june. the temperatures around the bay are not going to spike nearly as much. upper

how solano county heading right into the central valley where temperatures are really scorching. d as you see right now, again, hayward, 83 degrees, the winds. that's part of the story. the good news we've got a seabreeze tried to come through the golden gate right now. it is at 23 and going right into oakland at 13. but the winds are a bit variable at times those cool ocean breezes will certainly help the firefighters if they get a chance to really prevail. there's also a beach hazard statement in effect, and that's in effect through tomorrow. dangerous waves, 15 to 20 and a risk of sneaker waves. those can really come out of nowhere as you're walking along the beach in terms of temperatures tomorrow we see a slight cooling trend already coolish at the coastline. but as you head inland conquered, the forecast tomorrow is for 86 degrees. ond for napa. 76 degrees. as you see, 86 in santa rosa. it really varies a little bit. a look at the extended forecast shows tomorrow will be the warmest of the next 7 at well, at least while. will you be cooler on the weekend and then we'll start
