the port of oakland. their numbers are growing. i just talked to a photographer who is stationed at the west bart station. contingent also of several hundred protesters has left there just within the last couple of minutes. they are all heading to the port of oakland. their aim, to shut down operations tonight. i did talk to a spokesperson from the longshoremans union a short time ago. he said late today a collective decision was made by the company that operate the port not to call in any longshoremen tonight. that means several hundred longshoremen will be staying home and no operations will be happening at the port tonight. so the protesters have been successful in terms of that. they are also declaring victory for their actions this morning. about 1,400 protesters march to the port this morning, blocked several entrances to the terminals there, and stalled operations. we are told about 160 longshoremen were told to go home this morning. we were out there this morning and this afternoon. and there were dozens of trucks lined up. they weren't able to come in or out. this afternoon, however, the motor of

yes, i was checking out the tweet from occupy oakland and they were saying it is extremely important for protesters to meet here at 5:30 here this morning at the west oakland bart station to kick the day off right. but there are three marches planned for the rest of the day. for the port of oakland. one at 5:30 this morning. one at 3:00 this afternoon. and then 5:00 this evening. of course, these marchs have been in the works for the past month. since the successful first rally to the port on november 2. and now that march attracted more than 7,000 protesters. and they were able to shut down the port temporarily. but today's marches are not receiving the same support, especially from the port unions, and city officials. now, the occupiers say shutdown is to show support for the long shore union. that's in a labor dispute in washington state. but the union's president says the union has not voted to support the shutdown. and truckers who need to get their loads on to the cargo ships this morning think the marchs are are a bad idea. >> you don't want to happen either. they are taking money away from everybody. the more they occupy, the less money eve

bart says it found two 20-foot sections of copper wire missing from the west oakland station tracks earlyhis morning. the transit agency says it knows who the suspect is and bart is collecting evidence for an eventual arrest. in two of the three thefts, trains were running on the tracks and the suspect could have been electrocuted. on sunday a speeding train had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting the thief on the tracks. the man is suspected of another theft friday morning. the wire on the third track return current on the track and even if the trains aren't running, maintenance equipment could be running so the wires are often hot. bart says it's not unusual to hear about people stealing copper in order to sell later on but it is very unusual to have three cases in one week. and they have a suspect and they are working on search warrants gathering evidence right now. frank? >> desperate times if they are going on that third rail to get this wire. that is just crazy. >> i know. thanks, sharon. >>> tonight santa clara and the 49ers will lay out their funding plan for a new stadium. the
