it is not a major storm but it is snowing now in the shenandoah valley and as well as in western maryland and panhandle of west virginia and farther to the west. that area of green you see on the radar, this is our high definition local radar. showing this area is snow. it is now snowing near frederick, maryland. and farther to the west, up towards hagerstown along interstate 70 and 81. then down 81 right into the northern shenandoah valley where it meets 66. that's all snow there. and snow coming down harder in warren and clark counties, right there where the high levels of the blue ridge are there and the -- they are getting moderate snow there. farther to the east, though, precipitation not quite reaching the ground yet. it does appear it will be moving towards the metro area later on. right now 41 at reagan national. over the next hour or so maybe our high temperatures because where it is snowing, it is down into the mid 30s and much of it melting, though, on -- roadways, only accumulating maybe on grassy areas and an inch or two around the metro area. we will be falling from the upper 30s, early afternoon, low 30s

the further north and west you go, up into the higher terrain, frederick county, maryland, to the panhandle of west virginia, flakes continue to fly this morning, and that will be the case for the next couple hours. road beds are fairly warm and air temperatures are just barely at or above the freezing mark. so, even though it's snowing outside, not much of an additional accumulation is on the way. for those that had some yesterday. northern montgomery county, an inch to as much as an inch and a half yesterday, and maybe another inch for a few lucky spots today. but right now, temperatures 38 in washington, 36 waldorf and la plata, 36 fairfax and manassas, 32 hagerstown, 33 martinsburg. as we go from temperatures to radar, there you can see on storm 4 radar light snow across much of northern maryland, back into the panhandle of west virginia. this is all drifting east and southeast, so along interstate 70 there, to the west of frederick and even coming in towards howard county and parts of northern baltimore county, out towards the blue ridge, i-81, snowflakes are flying there. just rain drops from washingt

the only other day this winter that was ten degrees colder than average. outside right now 24 in hagersto hagerstown, 25 in the panhandle of west virginia, 25 in waldorf andatta, 25 also in fredricksburg. you factor in the winds which are still a bit gusty but nowhere near as strong of a wind as we had at this time last night when the winds were gusting 30 to 40 miles per hour. but wind chills nonetheless back down into the teens right now. and starting you off tomorrow morning expect single digits and teens again for wind chills. nothing showing up on storm 4 doppler close to us. fading snowflakes across parts of central pennsylvania. they're not going to make it to us. our next chance of precipitation is this big storm system in the lower parts of the united states. oklahoma and texas getting rain and snow tonight. this moisture is headed in our direction. it's not going to be that impressive of a storm when it gets here. but it is going to bring us our next chance of some precipitation anyway. so we'll be off to a breezy and cold start tomorrow but bright sunshine for most of tomorrow afternoon. the high clouds start coming in mid to late day tomorrow.
