if you go back to when the tea party was first created, the white house called the tea party extremists they believe it was a small band of extremists. they will give the republicans frustrations. the white house looks that and says the tea party, they were small, the republicans were nice to them and rode them to electoral success in 2010. we can do the same thing with occupy wall street. not occupation, as many people -- we can do the same thing with occupy wall street. the main problem is the tea party was at the time and continues to speak for middle america. occupy wall street does not. you don't see people in green bay, wisconsin, wearing che t-shirts. it's not the same crowd. >> bret: problem politically? >> it's a huge problem. they have a blind spot. president comes from the group to an extent. these are community organizers and they are his people. he doesn't see how the political risks necessarily, because he was organizing in much the way they are. what he sees in them is admirable. >> he was organizing block by block. this is a street protest. that is different from communi

what are we hearing from the white house behind the scenes? >> that's right. we expect president obama to speak momentarily. he will speak for a matter of about 10 minutes. he will reference reports that the white house has heard from officials in libya about the fact that gadhafi has been killed. he will also reference the fact that they have been in contact with source there is on the ground. they are diplomatic sources and they have confidence in the reporting they are geting for libya. the white house proceeded with an abundance of caution. they didn't want to make a comment until they knew 100% the reports that gadhafi had been killed were accurate. the reason is if you remember back to this summer when tripoli had fallen, we had gotten a number of reports that gadhafi's sons had been captured or killed and several hours later we learned that that wasn't the case. the white house really proceeding with an abundance of caution this morning. vice president joe biden just spoke about the possibility that gadhafi had been killed. he did not confirm the death.

two investigators asked the white house to release all of the internal documents, anything that mentioned the solyndra loan whatsoever and send them to captiol hill. the white house counsel sent a letter to them this afternoon. we got a copy of it and it says, we're not going to do this. we're not going to send you the documents because you have 70,000 pages of documents from agencies, 900 pages from inside the white house and to be bottom line it for you, erin, this is consistent with other administrations. we have always heard of executive privilege. the president always protects, traditionally the right of their advisers to give them unvarnished advice. so this isn't that big of a surprise but expect political fireworks any way. >> thank you very much. >>> let's bring in john avalon and jeffrey toobin to talk about that. political fireworks. we are going to get some because in addition to the news jessica broke we see an energy adviser that pushed for the loan raised a half million dollars for the president's re-election campaign. >> solyndra stinks and all of the e-mails show culpable

has the white house responded to what the republicans are now saying? >> the white house hasn't directly but the obama campaign has, and i'll tell you talking to the obama aides, i characterize their general position on this as bring it on. if they want -- if the republicans would like to make foreign policy part of this campaign, the obama team would be thrilled because they think that foreign policy is a strength for this president. they think if you add up his what they perceive as successes, taking out osama bin laden, now gadhafi, being part of that, going after al qaeda terrorists and the drone attacks, all adds up to leadership strengths that help the president. and they say contrast that with the records of the leading republican contenders, mitt romney, perry and cain who don't have the foreign policy experience. the obama campaign, anderson, also put out a statement on mitt romney that said in part "his foreign policy experience is limited to his work as a finance executive shipping american jobs overseas." meow. it's a sense of now snarky this
