the white house curator. we looked back at wallpaper. we did restriction of those. we had old photographs the way mary todd lincoln draped the lincoln bed with the purple, gold and really high victorian decorating. we did have later photographs not contemporary with lincoln but the bed still dressed the way she dressed it. >> how did the bush's use the white house as social instrument during their years? how did they use it to advance policy? >> i think that they had only really begun entertain the dinner for the mexican president was a few days been september 11th. it backfired they had fireworks. they hadn't warned anybody that was happening. then after september 11th, there was a great deal of thought to what was appropriate. i think laura bush has been instrumental in seeing the white house as a living historical stution. using it as a way to help people understand what the lives have been like for people who lived there at the time and the way it reflects the period and the way it reflects the context of

some of them will sleep overnight at the white house. if there's a state dinner, they'll come in at seven in the morning and be asked to stay until, you know, two a.m. after they've finished serving and clean up after the state dinner. they get overtime for that, but they're incredibly dedicated to their job. >> a lot of people are surprised at how big the white house is. it's six floorses, how many rooms? >> 132 rooms. yeah, it's huge. the six floors i was surprised at, because i was a white house reporter, and you would just see the three floors. there are basement levels where it really is kind of a downton abbey thing. you know, there's a kitchen and the cafeteria in the basement and lockers where they all congregate on their off hours. so it's a much larger building than you would ever think. >> you said you talked to people who have been working generation by generation. how has the size of the staff changed over the years? >> you know, it really, it's expanded, but it's always been pretty big, you know? it's gotten a little bit big

schwartz well-wisher job at the white house? >> guest: my job was to cover a range of different areas. the federal government agencies and making sure they were prepared in cybersecurity protecting privacy while doing cybersecurity and promoting information sharing. >> host: how has the focus changed over the last couple of years when it comes to cybersecurity and protecting against a cyberattack? >> guest: well especially after a lot of the incidents we have seen for example the sony incident and the incidents in the federal government there has been a lot of focus on making sure we have areas protected and parts of the economy protected that aren't necessarily in that critical infrastructure, aren't necessarily a major federal agency. a lot more broad coverage across a wide range of different entities. everyone is at risk of cyber attacks and how do you go about making sure you have the resources that the institutions need that traditionally has not gotten a direct funds for the direct information that they need. >> host: in yo
