[applause] throughout the fellowship, youth warriors also has the opportunity to meet other youth leaders throughout the city and share the wonderful work they are doing to run the city. this past thursday, the youth warriors and a group of leaders went to sacramento to our state capital to meet with our elected officials to talk about the community work we are doing. the warriors had an opportunity to get involved in the political process and have their voices heard on the city and state level. the department of children, youth, and their families, is proud to be working with such wonderful and inspiring youth. now i would like to introduce the director of the department of children, youth, and their families. she has been an advocate of the use or your award and fellowship. please give her a werround of applause. the youth commissioner. >> i am robin 18 year old, and part of warriors youth works. >> i am angel, and i work for the juvenile advisory council. >> i am joseph, 17. >> i am darren, 19, and i work with old school cafe. >> i work with the san francisco youth commision. >> i am brian, 17, working for the youth advisory council. >> she will talk about the ideal if activity. >> i work with the department of children, youth, and their families, and so, what we would like to do is present to you the ideal community, and this will be led by the wonderful you facilitators. we have vanessa, and marisol. if you can present your ideal community? >> we do couple of things. we have the drawing in the exercise, and we took some notes that describes everything that you see here, which is hard to take in. we'll start with everything i am naming off here. this is all three services and what have you. we start off with education and post-secondary education. we have housing programs, youth centers and transition planning, cultural competency training for the educators, and the service provider

youth. a warrior for our youth. in san francisco, that's a high calling. so many of you do this workday in and day out. it's difficult to choose one individual. but we have. and the person that we are honoring today is john osaki. now you know, when you meet john, you might think he is privileged. the japanese youth counsel was a grass roots organization in japan town created by jeff mory. john was actually a participant in the program. he came up and i got his first summer job? gcyc. he has worked in early childhood development. substance abuse prevention. they have expanded the range to include college access. substance abuse. youth employment and youth leadership. just to give you a sense of how many people are served there are over 8 thousand children from all /*eugt ethnic backgrounds. they help over 3 thousand youth to be the first to go to college. they put over 2 thousand youth a year to work through employment programs. we have to increase that to 20 thousand. his program as in many ways, revolutionized the way youth are employed in san francisco. the organization is often called upon by leaders and city government to implement now programs. they are est

youth. we are going to take you to a warriors game. for a president of time. we are going to be with and you let you be kids. so there's some of the preplanned work that happens. some of the other activities within this general out reach has been intervening on gangville. there was one time on one of the friday night out reach. there was a group of 10 men in the mission district 24th and mission. there was about 20 guys that were going to jump these 10. we were able to mediate. we were able with the van that we do the canvases able to take the 10 men out and nothing erupted into violence. >> how often does this happen? how do you decide today is the day? >> is this predictable? >> we are in the western edition. there's a mission crn and then an asian pacific crn. there will be one in the sunny va le. they do an assessment of the out reach they need to target. what i mentioned was a mission related incident. some of the out reach that has taken place in the bay view western edition is working with those. there's out reach calendars. we produce as individual neighborhood based. >> crn program that needs to be expanded? is it? do you
