theresa garcia, abc 7 news. >> theresa, thanks a lot. man accused of beating a preach who allegedly molested him when he was a child will appear in a claire courtroom today. william lynch has been charged with felony assault. he went to a requirement home and severely beat a jesuit priest. lynch and his brother have received a $625,000 settlement for the alleged abuse. investigators say the attack on the priest last may was motivated by revenge. >> an antioch man is facing charges after stopping traffic on the bay bridge for two hours. 51-year-old craig carlos valteeno stopped on the bridge yesterday morning. he claimed he had a gun and explosives inside his vehicle and threatened to jump off the span. he finally surrendered. the gun turned out to be fake and there were no explosives in the vehicle. he told officers that he thought his wife was cheating on him and he was at wits end. it turns out he had been on the news before. in february abc 7 interviewed him about violence in san francisco's north beach neighborhood. at the time he wo

theresa garcia, abc 7 news. >> theresa, thanks a lot. the u.s.upreme court takes up the case about overcrowding in california state prisons today. governor schwarzenegger is appealing the court ruling that demanded the state reduce prison population by 40,000 inmates. overcrowding in california's 33 state prisons violates the constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment but they contend it threatens public safety. california already has a plan to reduce the inmate population and the court shouldn't tell them how to do it. >> in santa cruz questions are asked why one deputy went with him to the hospital for tests. a standoff began when he tased that deputy and took her gun. abc 7 has the story. >> well, a santa cruz county sheriff's deputy was putting the shackled on aimsworth, he punched her, bit her and ran out into the parking lot. >> he took the deputy's taser, taseds the deputy and took the handgun. he fired around at a family bystander and fled into a neighborhood nearby. >> ainsworth kicked down the door of the secret garden ii presch

another top story of the morning from theresa garcia. know, a teenager's recent death is compelling one san jose city council member to take action against parents who allow illegal drinking. take a look. you see that cross here. it's a mark in south san jose, the spot of a horrific car crash and fire which the driver was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. this fatal car accident in late september involving two 18-year-old leland high school graduates is what's prompting a look how to stop teen drinking. while it's unclear where and how he got drunk, council member nancy pile says it moved her to propose an ordinance that would punish the parents for underaged drinking at home. at the voted to begin researching such a social host ordinance. claire county and nine of its cities have adopted this type of law which penalizes adults with fines up to $1,000 for allowing underaged drinking in the home. the state is also cracking down. lawsuits allowed against adults who knowingly give alcohol to youth in their home. the plan to do resea

other top story of the morning comes to us from theresa garcia. . he had a concussion and this call is creating quite an uperror. how someone could make a field more important than a child's health. the boy hurt is a 14-year-old that suffered a concussion on october 29th. after 9-1-1 was called he had to lay and wait for emergency workers who haul a gurney 75 yards down-field. our media partner the san jose mercury news reports that del mar's principal says she was following district orders banning motorized vehicles on the remodelled field. a spokesperson later blamed the new principal saying she misunderstood because the district never meant block emergency vehicles. the injured player's mother wants the principal reprimanded. the superintendent has apologized and says all staff will be reminded to allow access to emergency vehicles. now, the teen football student is recuperating but has suffered headaches and neck pain and is being monitored for potential brain damage. while it's unclear whether it affected his health, they say every second coun
