just millions and millions of dollars are spent by our visitors in this city. so we have to keep it beautiful, we have to keep it updated and informative. we have great partners that have known over many decades that this is the heart of our business, tourism, the hotels, some of the greatest hotels in the world are here in san francisco and they will be welcoming all the people that come from 55 days of sailing. event after event find it's way to san francisco, the bay area because they know we know how to host this. i want to welcome bob from our chamber of commerce because he's learning very quickly how wonderful this place is. [ applause ] and how we do things and how we do things successfully is to identify or challenge and get really bright creative minds like joe, and you start working with union square and you discover and help everybody be successful and you find john, who gets this going. you get all of these discoveries like people in the city like john, who has been there year after year operateing the whole convention visitor center and you start to

it will be building appropriate tower for this great city. now that it seems to be the tallest tower, but west of the mississippi, what a marvelous marker for this place. when you see it as a distance, this tower, you will know that the center is at it's space. when you arrive in san francisco from los angeles or san diego, you will be in this tower. so it's a marvelous combination to have the gateway to the city and the tallest building next to each other. it's an extraordinary combivenlths combination for the center, a new place for the city. the tower will raise into sky and we have designed it to be as delicate as possible and to end that will almost dissolve in the air. it will be a very san franciscans tower. i'm very happy to be here today. thank you all very much. to make it continue to be a city that i know mayor brown had tried all this year to continue being which is the world class city for everybody. and this is what i know that willie has done. all of his years, i think that his history is quite clear, not only to everybody in this room for anybody who works within this building knows that every detail of government, whether it is shining the brass in these elevators, to people who work here and the standards upon which they should be serving the public, to great department heads and all of the things that they do to continue the success of this city. mayor brown, has done all of it. and he has paid attention to every detail and i am still catching up to learn, but it is. even to be close to what he has been trying to do and of course, especially this year with the trials and tribulations of i suppose any mayor in their first elected year goes through, you know, i take a lot of things personally and i must always go back and say, willie, did this happen to you? >> and, of course, getting the great advice that is

who work hard to commit to this city. it's time to let them come out shadows of our city we must ask washington to pass the immigration reform bill. and we must demand a pathway to citizenship in our society for every american and every san franciscan. and this san francisco of the 21 accounting century requires a violation and move our workers around the city reliablely and efficiently. and, yes i'm talking about our public transit system. i'm talking about all our transportation systems. and one day high-speed rail. i know it's frustrating to push your way onto a overcrowded bus. i know you were frustrated in the past to reach your jobs late. i'm proud to say there's changes on the way and the nation largest addition is once again focused on operations and inviting a maintenance system. this year new hybrid buses will hit the streets. 60 new trillion buses are on the way and 1 hundred and 50 the vehicles will be over hauled. we'll see more at the time of the accidents on our streets. last year the mta adopted a new budge

people like you and the board of trustees that provide us with a reason why the work hard to keep this city great as an international city to make sure we do all the things because arts, oftentimes when you talk to the employees of all the technology companies that i have been talking with every week and ask them what draws their talent to a city, the first three things they know whether it's public transportation, it's also the arts. because that's what keeps their creative mind functioning. and it's these institutions with their wonderful service and their continuing exhibitions, world renown exhibitions that introduce and keep their minds active and keeps the tremendous amounts of visitors coming to our city. i know how difficult it has been for board and for the president to make quick search, to matchup the right person with such an incredible institution as these are. i for one, know how difficult it is and when you are trying to do that when you are running government, i want to also say to the staff that i enjoyed mr. buchannon's leadershipa as much as you do, to fill those shoes wi
